People slamming the club for not signing a player, who’s only proof that we were interested is a flight tracker.

I’ve seen it all now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Were have they been slammed for not signing him?

The problem is we haven’t signed players to improve the area’s of the squad that glaringly need improving and have done for a while.

2 or 3 injuries at CB or DM and we are in the sh!t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many times have you seen him play? He’s had one season in Europe, so probably not many.

A quick check will tell you that Porto are playing with two deep lying midfielders in front of the back four. Nothing like we play, so how do you know he would improve us?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he was used as an example of a highly rated player in a position we need who was attainable. Not suggested as a vital signing which you seem to have dreamed up.

Klopp says lack of Liverpool transfers show how hard it is to improve his squad. Jürgen Klopp has said Liverpool's relative inactivity in the transfer market over the past 12 months demonstrates the difficulty of improving a dominant squad

Think people are prob being harsh on the ratings of the window. Still think it was a quarter of a window if that since Slot wanted to assess the squad and most of it only came back for the last few weeks of the window.

Also its clear we want a specific type or player in midfield zubimendi type, else we’d have surely taken andre for 20m or ugarte for 40? Outside of that hs anyone signed anyone we really feel we’ve missed out on? Aka been available to sign? Within budget and wage structure?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't really care what other teams have done. Hughes and the club have failed to address the squads weaknesses for this window bar a utility forward (Chiesa), who can provide cover for Salah on the RW

The situation at CB is ridiculous tbh. We have 4 senior players, having sold van den Berg and loaning out Phillips. A couple of injuries here and we are down to untried children. Every game Konate plays fans will be watching through their fingersNo excuses can be offered that any sensible fan can find palatable. It's ludicrous.

All the while the club has said nothing to the fans. Total silence other than a few leaked messages via the usual journo's.

This window has been a disaster. Hands up those of you who would have been happy with this at the start of the transfer window?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem is that whereas all this rationale and reasonings make sense, that's not really the parameters by which I judge the club fundamentally. I don't see transfer windows as something that can be assessed as a failure or success so acutely. There's many things I might not be comfortable or in congruence with but ultimately, it's the long term strategy that brings success, and that's what matters. Winning the transfer window cup seems more important to some people than actual trophies at the end of the season.

Failing to make signings this summer could be part of that long term plan IMO because we've just changed the everything from manager to transfer committee, and perhaps they have a plan which doesn't involve spending big two seconds after walking through the door. Or maybe they're just stoopid and don't know what there doing. Or maybe FSG want to asset strop and sell the club. Who knows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair points

I understand where you are coming from, but my desire isn't as you say to win the transfer window. In terms of incomings I think the business we've done has been smart. However, the issue at CB is a grave concern and jeopardises any potential for success this season.

The safe long term strategy of the club I would argue is built upon the notion of achieving Champion League football as the bare minimum. I don't think flirting with a potential injury risk in a key position at the centre of our defence makes me a Ted Boehly wannabe . We been down that path with FSG before and we needed an Alisson header to get out of it.

The loan market isn't closed so perhaps we might choose to bring in another Kabak. At this juncture it seriously needs considering. Maybe we should be more like Chelsea and trying to get a CB on loan from them for a season? Inbefore would be incredulous with rage, which makes this proposition even more attractive

trying to claim theres loads of players available that would improve us is mental to me

firstly they have to make our shortlist aka a player we're willing to even look at. thats prob narrowed it down to hundreds if that. then theres hundreds of factors that would make most of them unattainable, again most out of our control be it the players side or his clubs.

years and years of klopp saying its not easy to improve us. but according to paisley and kls kash etc. it is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think there’s loads of players out there that could improve us over Endo & Grav (who isn’t a specialist) at defensive midfield.

I agreed with Badgert!ts getting a loan for game time but only if we were bringing someone in, because we are short at cb & dm.

u might be right, but then factor in are they attainable? we cant just decide ourselves. everything has to fall into place, theres just too many factors.

if we get desperate in trying to force it we potentially screw ourselves over in future transfers and salaries. Like other clubs.

I think Villa got a great player in that position in Amadou Onana, I think he’ll improve them no end and go on to be very good.

these guys are professionals and know their jobs. I think theyd all agree theyd like to have done more but theyre all happy with how it ended how it did and understand why. Its normal esp under the circumstances which imo were not ideal.
And not so much diff to how we operated in the past either. Yeah it cost us in the past but even still they feels its the right thing to do. Probably shows they feel that the alternative is worse than us getting injuries and writing a season off again.

He could well do, but we’ve got to remember that teams like Villa have their bar set lower than us.

How many players over the years have fans lambasted the club for being beaten to by teams like Villa, only for that player to turn out to be nothing special? There are loads.

A massive part of identifying players is judging if they’ll be able to make the step up. And I think that gets ignored on social media.

Now you’re just making stuff up or thinking you’ve read what you want to have read. That was my comment on Varela.

But you’re the one banging on about within budget and in our salary range but you don’t know what it is either!

I don’t think anyone wants us going out spending over £100m and paying 500k a week but Alan Varela well with in our budget and salary range.

Zubi is not the only man in that position that would’ve improved us.

Didn’t say he’d surely improve us or improve us at all, my comment was a player being in budget and within salary level.

Just like you suggested I had slammed the club for not signing him, that was wrong to.

from what I’ve seen of him he’s better than what we have and would improve us and would only improve here as a player. He was used as 1 example,I believe there simply has to be more players out there than Zubi that we can get that are better than what we have. It’s an opinion and on this sports discussion site, this is the place to express them. I not remotely an FSG out nonce but I’m not going to sit here blowing smoke up their ass for not providing what the squad needs.
