You can see our pressing structure is more about setting traps than we used to do. Dalot was identified as the weak link and was allowed time and space. Slot clearly knew Casemiro wasn't the best in the build up phase.

Our build up structure was different than last week. Mac and Gravenberch played as the double pivot and Trent played further up the pitch. Slot likes more short passes in the first phase. Trent takes more risks with his passing in that inverted role and this increases losing the ball in dangerous positions.

That's why we didn't go for players like Ederson or Ugarte. Both players are limited with their passing and receiving the ball on the half turn. Slot wants players who can control and speed up the game in possession.

Ugarte yes but Ederson can play in a Slot system

Atalanta use their double pivot wide and this gets the best out of Ederson. He is a good ball carrier but not a good passer in my opinion. Slot wants a ball retention player in that position. Varela would be a much better fit.

From what I saw neither were deeper. It was just 2 midfielders complimenting each other and adapting when needed.

Yeah they both were kinda switching from being a 6 to a 8.

Yep:

Ipswich - foundation level - passed
Brentford - upper foundation level - passed
United - junior level - passed

Gravs has been singled out as a huge talent for a while. That’s why he became Ajax’s youngest ever player at 16 (and they’ve had a lot of serious talent come through), why he played regularly as a teenager and why Bayern brought him.

He’ll have crap games. He’s still only 22, it’s inevitable. But hopefully this is the beginning of him gaining consistency and delivering on his promise. If it is then he’s going to look an absolute bargain in a few years time.

Still yet to come up against a good team in midfield, so lets wait and see on Grav. Brilliant performance yesterday, however- his best game for us.

I just like how he took ownership yesterday. Carra compared it to Viera yesterday and that was not far from the truth. He had the belief that he was the best player on the pitch yesterday which is a far cry from last season where he was a passenger.

Shoutout to Robbo for yesterday as well. Admittedly it was only Garnacho but he hasn't been that good these past few months and he's started the season well enough imo.

We've seen tweaks and role changes every week so far...so Slot is still figuring it out himself but we're doing good.

By far his best game

Robbo was excellent but then did struggle against Amad.

Game was won by then...everybody took their foot off the gas

Looks like we are taking clean sheets seriously again, which I love.

Again attacks win games, but defences win titles.

We used to control the game in & out of possession up until 2022...don't know what happened since but looks like we're back now

Saw a stat yesterday that we didn't have 3 clean sheets in the league last year until October.

Tbf I think Klopp just went for it last season being his last . Just took the handbrake off and thought f*ck it. Not good for our mental health though.

100% this.

Klopp is getting way too much stick that we were this basketball team and forgetting the actual glory years when we had Fab, Hendo and Gini in midfield which made us a well oiled machine. Last season Klopp probably thought to fek it and just go out full.

Slot has done well but he has not reinvented the wheel.

wasnt that impressive, were still far too many moments Utd could have scored if they weren't sheit. Also a statue of fellaini should have scored 2 sitters.

lot to like about it but still loads to work on and improve at.

hopefully Diaz can keep up this form though, whats that 3 goals and an assist first 3 games? much better. Him and Salah looked to be struggling to get into the game for the first 40 mins or w.e it was. came up with the goods though. Jota wasnt gr8 either.

hopefully we get better at starting games/halves too, another one where we started the game poorly even that shower started the game better.

Whats clear is the pivot 2 in midfield being back when we lose the ball and close together with every1 sprinting back into shape when we lose the ball. Szob further ahead caused utd a lot of problems, picking up space in holes between their mf and def. Slot spoke about switching him from the right to left for utd.

The def line a bit deeper and cbs dropping off and defending rather than tryna play every ball in behind with an offside trap. Naturally makes us more solid.

The ingame management from Slot is impressive too. You dno opps gameplan until y ou play them, they had Fellaini dropping on grav from the off, which helped us cause he was often never in the box by the few times they crossed it first half. But also how he changes our shape depending how theyre pressing us, Trents position changed reacting to their press and it worked wonders.

Can only imagine all this stuff getting better. Said the other day whats been impressive is hes come in under not ideal circumstances. Theres been a lot of positives and the results have been great and well navigated etc. Feel like we are good enough to beat some very good teams and win tricky enough fixtures whilst performing at maybe 40 % of the full potential of us under slot if that. If he can get them well oiled get his signings in etc it could be some more exciting times for us under Arne.

Yeah Diaz looks a different beast this season. Think he’s actually surprised a lot of people at how clinical he’s been. Hopefully he keeps it up and stays fit.

With a front 6 of Diaz,Jota,Salah,Gakpo,Nunez and Chiesa, we are the envy of European football.

They'll always come flying out of the blocks at home to us. We soon took control of the game though.
