To be fair our media can be a right shambles
----------------------------------------------
They're a disgrace, all they're interested in is dishing dirt on someone, was watching sky news earlier and the reporter was interviewing a ukip mp in Rotherham, all she was doing was trying to goad him on immigration, she wasn't interested in any other politics, real crap journalism

He hasn't served his full time. He's on liscense or something.....
He should consider moving abroad for a few years and playing. That's what I would do. Not sure if the terms of his license would allow that though. Failing that, maybe drop down to semi pro for a bit. If he does that the media should really stop hounding him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the terms of his licence and the fact that he's on the se x offenders register which prevents him from going abroad, which is why his move to Malta fell through at the weekend

How come every time he gets a mention on the news he's referred to as "the convicted rapist ched evans"
========================================
Because that's the reason he's struggling to get a club.
A lot of people won't know who he is, therefore it pretty much explains what's going on.
If he was referred to as 'left handed Sagittarian', Ched Evans, people may think he was being treated somewhat unfairly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Calling him 'convicted rapist' is a fact.
Shouldn't have put himself in such a risky position anyway and risk throwing away what was no doubt a hobby and also lucrative occupation. Nobody else's fault but his own. The media didn't drop him off at the hotel did they?
I'd heard of Ched Evans before, I don't follow the football league as much as I should but he's a pretty decent player by all accounts.. Sheff Utd paid 3m for him in 2009.
The press can hardly start calling him "suspected rapist Ched Evans". That wouldn't be on.

Exactly, Harrys was referring to the idea he'd not heard of him until after the trial. My point is they actually reported on it fairly, it was only when he was convicted, sacked, then came out unrepentant looking for a new contract.

Exactly.
How is an accidental manslaughter worse than raping someone?
Obviously a worse outcome, but you could fall asleep behind the wheel, with no evil intent at all. To rape someone takes an evil, violent mind.
So nobody on the thread has ever met a girl on a Saturday night, had a few drinks with her and taken her to bed? If you have, and she decided a few days later that she regretted it and felt she'd been taken advantage of, you could easily end up in a similar situation.
I'm not suggesting this is exactly what happened in this instance but you can see how easily something like his could arise.

A horrible accident, which killed an innocent passenger in the car he crashed into after driving like a "madman", then failing to stop, driving off and failed to report the accident. Denied everything until the morning of the trail and changed his plea to get a reduced sentence

Sky news can be dire,as they forced folk to say what they had witnessed in the Glasgow bin lorry crash, even after people said they did not wish to elaborate.Gore seeking vultures.

and youre right about not the same as raping someone, as awful a crime as the rape was, the victim has the chance to rebuild their life, see their kids grow up, get married etc, Hughes's victim had that chance taken away.
You're suggesting we could all be convicted rapists now?
Argument lost. Go start a petition for him or something.

To be fair I wasn't aware of the details of the case, I knew he'd pleaded guilty and kind of assumed he'd taken the rap. That does make it worse to be fair.
Mark - as above, I didn't realise he'd gone to lengths to avoid punishment.. though he did plead guilty and hasn't appealed it since?
I still would rather someone who'd been in a terrible car crash at my club than a rapist.
I disagree about Lee Hughes crime being worse, yes the end result was a death but he didn't go and kill the person deliberately, it was the sad consequence of his drunken driving. Until such time as his conviction is overruled, Ched Evans is a convicted rapist out on licence and his actions against that girl were very deliberate and harmful, one to one against weaker prey. Very different, he decided to violate her, Lee Hughes was stupid and paid for it by living with a death on his conscience now for ever. But he didn't set out to kill a person. Ched knew what he was doing....and still did it.

I haven't suggested anything of the sort and neither am I about to start a petition for Shed Evans, I just wanted to know peoples thoughts on the matter.

---------------------------
I see where your coming from but sometimes dangerous driving gets trivialised, a car is a killing machine in the wrong hands
Initially I was against Ched Evans ever playing professional football for a club again, but now I have changed my mind.
The media keep stating that he is a convicted rapist, which he is, but there is a massive distinction between the traditional perception of rape (violent struggle followed by a man raping the woman etc) and what Evans did. The footage of them entering the Travelodge does not suggest there wasn't consent on either side (I know that is not the issue in its entirety). People state that he has shown no remorse but if both parties consented, then he probably feels he isn't guilty. He's served his sentence anyway so let him get back playing.
One other thing that I'd draw upon is how people are looking to make an example of him. Numerous footballers have served prison sentences in the past (Marlon King, Lee Hughes) and have been able to resume their football careers. the same should apply here.
