The reality is we are the fifth highest payers in the league.

Fifth is where we should be logically.

The reality is we haven't achieved any of the targets set by the manager himself.

Our expectations are irrelevant.

The reality is we should not be out fought and outplayed by a team in the semi of the cup who spent a fraction to what we have.

Don't forget he also lost to besiktas in europa

Jonathan Northcroft @JNorthcroft
Liverpool set to miss out on Depay and are at crossroads, both with fees and wages. Unless pay a certain level they'll fall further behind.

Striker is definitely the priority in the summer. I firmly believe we should make Benteke our top target, he's rediscovered his touch now and we saw what he was about yesterday, he was magnificent. He has been a bit inconsistent this season but that coincided with returning from injury to a team that were playing terribly under Lambert.

Proven at international level and premier league level, in a better team I'd think he would score a lot of goals for us. I fail to see anyone better we could realistically sign, very few strikers out there now. Would cost around £30m probably but hopefully we could offset that partially with sale of the deadwood like Borini and Balotelli.

It's great that Benteke is back in form but his injury record worries me.

He has already been missing around 10 games a season and that's without the strain of European football.

We also getting origi who did not imo look that good st the world cup. We need to splash out big. Go to south American league and just go for it on the next big thing.

I'm with R1 too. We already have one injury prone striker. For me he will be a last resort. Benteke for me goes through patches but on his day unplayable.

Benteke will go a CL club next season

Benteke is a big gamble for injuries who would cost big money.

I'm bored of injuries. No thanks.

Problem for us that 3 keys players keep picking up injuries in Sakho, Lucas and Sturridge. Benteke will add to this.

In big games the skills of Coutniho and pace of Sterling won't be enough. Leadership and steel in midfield are very important aspects but we have none in this team. A copule of good players and many average and overrated players.

We currently have some notable players who choke in the big games with one of them being our future skipper which is the most alarming worry.

Sakho's injuries are very concerning.

He is obviously a quality footballer when he gets a run, but it never seems to last more than about 15 games then he breaks down with another relatively minor muscle problem.

Lovren played ok again yesterday though ridiculous shot aside. All our defensive problems were down the opposite side to where he was playing. Benteke bullied Skrtel and Can was all over the place with no protection.

Markovic has really disappointed me. He had about 5 good games around January time but overall has been very poor. I know he is young but he goes missing far too easily and his stats are poor.

I do think the season has caught up with us a bit and it's a young squad. Not like there has been masses of rotation either.

At least we will have Ibe back for the remaining games.

If nothing else he is exciting to watch.

I do like Ibe

posted on 20/4/15

It will be interesting to see Ibe is like further forward. He has enjoyed attacking as a RWB when he has had space to run into but further forward there is less space and time.

do we even stick with a back 3 once (if) Studge is fit again

might not be wingbacks

=========================
Markovic has been subbed off 4 times in his 6 starts at half time. That's pretty demeaning even for a young player.

Do you think that if you increased your current players wages to make them the highest paid in the league you would be first?

No. I think we are stuck with this level of player because we can't/won't pay more for the better players that would enable us to be higher up the league.

The league doesn't sit from 1-20 on who pays highest wages.

The best managers get their teams higher.

Our manager thought we could finish 2nd a month ago.
