Pakistan used to be one with a female Prime Minister
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Iran, Maldives, to name a few.
Question for you roonited, do you believe we live in a democracy?
If we did, can you explain to me how a supposedly deomcratic govt continues to meddle in a region, making the people it swore to protect unsafe?
When this was put to a vote, the much maligned Galloway and Miliband, stood against it. Rather than praise these people, they were mocked and derided
Pakistan is still democratic but unfortunately severely corrupt but then again which government is not?

Funny thing is that muslims lived in Britain in peace and harmony for generations. Then 9/11 happened and Britain turned its back on muslims and it has gone downhill since then.
It would be nice if people really studied this "Islam" they deride a lot, especially its teachings on "Jesus" and "Mary" and how killing an innocent is the same as committing genocide.
It would help a lot, instead people focus on parts of the Quran that are equally comparable with the bible, particularly the Book of Leviticus, Numbers, Exodus and Kings.
According to the Bible, God was displeased with Saul for sparing the life of people in a kingdom he invaded. God's request was for Saul to kill every single living thing including women and children.
No one holds Christians accountable for this or for justifying slavery, discrimination and the mass murder of innocents undertaken by "Christian" govts who pretend to be secular.
Somehow it is the muslims who are the bad ones.
How many people have the US and the UK govts killed in the region? We all mourned on 7/7 when our countrymen were murdered by crazed zealots but do not think or remember how many hundreds of thousands died during the "war in iraq."
Our media and govts have dehumansied these people so it is okay to not worry about the untold hardship our actions have caused.
Now, take yourself out of your comfort zone and place yourself in Iraq and see the world from another person's eyes. Especially the muslims being murderd by ISIS that our actions helped create.
I cannot understand how we have absolved ourselves of the blame and choose instead to pick on people going about their daily lives.
It is disgusting and truth be told, there is some latent racism behind it as well
Of course I forgot about Turkey and hadn't occurred to me about those other countries. An ignorant question it must seem but a question with the Iraq situation in mind. Under the proper conditions the people of that region could enjoy a free democratic way of life
So there is hope
But it can be achieved with the help of other countries not interferance

You can hold the government itself responsible for it. Not the religion. We have bypassed the religion being the dominant force in the state. That is why. As for justifying slavery - please. That is a different argument from over a hundred years ago and is about power and wealth not religion.

How would you deal with IS if you're the UK government though.

Explained this above already
Mudd the Iraqi people weren't exactly living in utopia pre 911 and yes I know Saddam owed his position to western influence. But Saddam still could have done the right thing by his country but didn't. There is a power vacuum being filled by Isis but where was the positive influences in the region when they were needed.
Western influence has had its disastrous consequences but don't forget the part other Muslim nations are playing in all this.
Saddam was a brutal dictator, now you see why, he knew his people better than we do.
What about Libya? Egypt?
Muslim nations are playing a part in it for a variety of reasons, key one being oil and land.
However the "muslim" nation sponsoring most of it is being protected by us. So, imagine what would happen if we stopped protecting them?

You're missing the part where 9/11 had ANYTHING to do with Saddam......
----------------------------------------------------------------------
911 was the catalyst for upheaval in the region
regardless of Saddam's non involvement in the attack

We all know what the driving influence of the wests invovement in the area but they still tried to lay the groundwork for democracy for all the people of Iraq. The other country's at work in the area don't seem to care beyond oil, land and the particular ways they practice their religion.

You say it was the catalyst
For what?
An invasion of a country that had nothing to do with it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well it all happened after 911 so I would say it could be described as a catalyst for the upheaval that followed it
A catalyst isn't a reason or an excuse
