His advice to cabinet was leaked (any trade deal with the EU will take 10 years) and now hes been forced out 11 months early. The brexitears in cabinet don't like uppity civil servants speaking truth to power.

Those damn pesky experts who had the impudence to predict that a trade deal with Europe would take years

Is this the fella who's been described as the most experienced person we've got to go into negotiations following his years as an EU ambassador?

It's not just negotiations. Any final deal with the EU, will have to be ratified by the EU parliament, then put to all EU27, and 37 regional parliaments.

The House of Lords, as well as anyone with any experience of trade treaties, recognise a FTA could take many years.

Thought so. It's a bizarre move. We're gong to need as much experience as possible in negotiations. From what I can gather Sir Ivan Rogers was just managing expectations regarding the timescale.

................

Exactly, spoke truth to power and is now out on his ear...An own goal of immeasurable proportions from a govt that hasn't got a clue.

Was he sacked?

Neither you nor I know what brexit or remain would entail, but if the democratic mandate means anything, the govt has to follow the brexit line.

Sorry removed or replaced not sacked.

I'd imagine our ambassadors have also got the same mandate. That and handing out Ferrea Roche's.

Wanting the UK to fail, sneering at May, farage and the govt is all great fun for the leftist know it alls, but moaning like spoilt kids is boring and futile.

Keeps sizzle busy here, but nothing else.

He was (along with Lord Harris) the most important civil servant the government had at their disposal.

His resignation does little to assist the UK.

When he set out the uncomfortable truth, that the government face an nearly impossible task, he was labeled (by the ignorant) as being pessimistic.

A cull of the UK's most experienced diplomats is hardly the best way to prepare for the most complex negotiation the UK has ever faced.

Came to this late, so not sure if he was told to go, or walked, after saying trade deals would take a decade....thus giving remainers a semi.

Be honest, picking holes in brexit is a hobby for the wiser, nicer better people of remain.

Rather arrogant to label critic's of Sir Ivan as arrogant....as the polls and economists have revealed, experts get it wrong.
Cameron tried to get a better deal with the Eu, and what did he get, with all the remain experts behind him?

Diddly squat.

Or, a general who favours the other side.

It now seems he resigned......his call,,not a cull?
