It’s CNN. Trump has now classified CNN as “fake news” so whatever they publish can’t possibly be true.
He’s trying to create a landscape in which those who challenge him, or expose his lies, (regardless of reality) he’ll try to dissolve/discredit using the “fake news” propaganda. Or as recently defined by his administration as “alternative facts”
“You say the earth is round. We believe it’s flat, therefore that's the mandate we intend to follow"
The climate change stuff (if it wasn’t so serious) is pathetic. Thankfully his ignorance is galvanising the scientific community, (as well as the likes of NASA, and the rest of the world) to speak out.
Despite his executive orders to gag them.
Whether people agree with Trump’s politics or not, I cannot understand why anyone could support someone using their supremacy to ban their own national park’s from releasing scientific data. It’s more in line with the politics of North Korea!
His recent plan to bring back torture, (the rights and wrongs aside) would make it impossible for NATO/UN etc to cooperate with US intelligence services as torture is illegal, (UN international human rights treaty).
Spicer’s daily press briefings are becoming reminiscent of Comical Ali (the Iraqi diplomat/spokesperson) during the Iraq war.
It’s scary stuff.

It is scary indeed. And to know that May is the first world leader to visit him and trying to lay the foundation for a trade deal is even scarier in the UK point of view.
I've heard something very quickly this morning in the news where they were saying nothing can be signed (between US and UK) until we have actually left the EU. I haven't looked into it but I hope it is true because by then, people might have realised how dangerous this man can be (if it is still in charge!!).

I'd commented on this (trade deal with the US) on the other Brexit thread:

The UK can chat to whoever they want re trade deals but until we've left the EU we won't be able to formally enter into negotiations.
This is not just an EU requirement but under the terms of the WTO.

it's funny how everyone said Trump is the biggest bullshitter but is actually doing what he said in the campaign much more than any politician I can recall.
A lot of his critics just exaggerate what he said and then get hysterical over things that aren't even true e.g. he's banned Muslims which he hasn't
8bit
You’re right. To his credit he’s trying to implement his campaign promises. Although as Obama found out executive orders (Guantanamo etc) can be blocked in Congress/Senate.
I was reading the other day that China is the largest holder of US debt (around 10%). Yet Trump wants a trade war with them. If he had any diplomatic ability, he could have entered into discussions with China (to address the trade deficit) cordially. However he’s chosen to pick a public fight with his bank manager.
Also by pulling out of TPP he’s handed trillions to China – who only last week were championing free trade – the clearest indication yet they will join TPP.
So whilst there are many undertakings at present, it will be interesting to see how many he can deliver.

"A lot of his critics just exaggerate what he said and then get hysterical over things that aren't even true e.g. he's banned Muslims which he hasn't"
He's looking to ban visa applications, and immigrants, from Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Somalia and Syria. Yet exceptions are going to be made for Christians, among others, fleeing persecution from those countres. Muslims are not included. In other words if you're a Muslim being persecuted by extremists, well that's tough.
Another good point in the article I linked earlier is that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE are not going to be banned, despite the perpetrators of 9-11 coming from those countries, with 1 from Lebanon. Trump has business in the above countries.
I have no idea how it will end but I'm excited to see what happens in medium to long term. I get some people are worried. The media tries to paint him as a lunatic bull in a China shop but he is very strategic and does things for a reason.

About denying visa's I don't know all the details. From what I heard it was about detailed checks on people from some countries but not banning anyone. I'm not saying that's the right way to do it but, the terrorist threat is not going anywhere, getting worse if anything and we need to start coming up with solutions. The executive order specifically referred to predominately Muslim nations.
Despite ignoring the advice of the US intelligence services he went ahead and signed the order. It was politically motivated, not one of safeguarding US citizens.
His decision is a victory for Isis, as ostracising and persecuting Muslims across the world was their modus operandi since they were formed.
The problem is that no-one knows yet (there has been a freedom of information request lodged) the extent of his business ties to these (and other) countries as he refused to release his tax returns.
Trump as President, seems to have a lot more powers than previous holders of the office,or is that just a myth.
groovyduringthewar
There will be others on here who know more details but as I understand it, a POTUS can sign executive orders but they have to be ratified in Congress/the Senate.
However as the republicans have a majority there is a greater chance of them being passed.
Obama also signed a host of executive orders (Guantanamo, gun controls etc) but they were blocked by Congress.
Then will Trump put an end to Political Correctness, with his new found powers, and with the backing of Congress,it's the way he's heading.

All the countries coutinho named are warzones right now apart from Iran, it's not the craziest idea to do a bit more checking on people from there. The best way to stop terrorism is to stop the wars in those countries, and if Trump and allies work with Putin instead of against that has more chance of happening.

The countries were not chosen due to their conflict situations but the Nations main religion being Islam.
There's loads of other Muslim countries, not just in the middle east but Malaysia, indonesia. The ban is on refugees, and other citizens will get vetted. But the same people won't say a word about super wealthy Muslim nations who won't take refugees from their neighbouring countries.

Just to give you an example back in the 80’s when I travelled to the UK (from Northern Ireland) I had to go through additional security checks. As I wasn’t a terrorist, and had nothing to hide, it didn’t bother me at first.
But over time it became a fairly repulsive process. We were all rounded up and were ‘presumed’ to be hiding something. When I was in the UK, some became suspicious, and we were treated differently to others. The tension sometimes was extremely uncomfortable.
Many became hostile towards “the Brits” because of the way they had been treated. As well as interment, (the imprisonment without trial of hundreds of IR@ suspects) it helped radicalise many people, and influence political opinion.
While the situation in the US is different “branding” an entire country as a threat, and sanctioning a nation without due cause will not solve the problem.
History tells us it will only make it worse.
