The poor people of this country might get better looked after
....................................

Any deluded idiot who thought Brexit (which means less money) would somehow mean more money for the poor deserves everything that's coming..

Not that the rest of it is particularly accurate but that bit stood out, no EU just the tories now, of course poor people, hospitals and schools are the priority...

I read today that the EU Parliament (as expected) voted to cancel Turkey’s accession application to the EU.

Based on the OBR’s figures (ie UK remains in European markets) it will cost the UK around £250m a week to arrange severance from the EU. Or around 17yrs worth of UK contributions to the EU budget.

The OBR also forecast (as well as the treasury and IMF) that it will most likely be a decade before the UK see any tangible benefits (if any) from a Brexit.

When an arrangement turns out to be a case of damage limitation, rather than advantageous, surely there has to be some kind of recognition from Parliament, that maybe the electorate got this one wrong.

Wearethefamous

The UK will not be able to set up FTA’s elsewhere if we remain in the customs union. As will still be subject to CJEU. Leaving the customs union will cripple UK commerce with the EU – our largest trading partner. How will this be replaced?

Agreeing FTA’s necessitate movement of labour. Look at India’s swift rebuttal when May visited last month. So we either allow millions of people (labour) in from outside the EU or remain as is.

FTA’s take many years to broker (7/8yrs untypical). And many of the countries the UK are looking to invest in, are already in negotiations with the EU Commission. Their 26,000 staff can manage this workload, the UK cannot.

Even if the UK leaves the SM, to gain access, (with tariffs) the UK will have to pay into the EU budget, and comply with EU Directives – much like Norway, Switzerland etc.

Not really sure if you’ve thought this one through.

"Not really sure if you’ve thought this one through."

You're not allowed to say this. You're just being a Liberal-Leftie something, something, blah.

I think Ceta was discussed on this thread a while back. Canada has not asked for (nor will get) full access to European markets. They will not contribute to the EU budget.

Their economy is not reliant on a trading arrangement with the EU. The UK has a 43 year trading agreement with the EU, and they are our closest and biggest market, so requirements, (naturally) are completely different to Canada’s.
