I think the missing subtext is that there's a general rule that when a Muslim kills a bunch of people, he's universally described as a terrorist (whether the individual is suffering from schizophrenia or not) but when it's a white dude large sections of the mainstream media seem queasy about using the T-word. Instead they focus on the fact that the perpetrator was a loner / troubled / a nutcase. This is the double standard to which KFC was alluding.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair to the Daily Mail they're running this as a terrorist attack much like they would if it were muslims killing people.

Surly if somebody who drives a van into people is deemed mentally ill, then somebody who plans an attack with planes is REALLY mentally ill..... no?

Indeed. Felt weird typing it. But in debates like these I like to make sure every point from every source is accurate.
I dunno if it's been said on here but the Independent is reporting that the Imam from the mosque protected the driver from the angry mob of people.

There is already ALOT of vitriol today from a certain type of people and they get 1000s of likes, upvotes etc.
There are alot of alt-right people who will be, if not outright happy, at least have a sense of "justice" today.

Dacre supposedly wasn't initially sympathetic to the Stephen Lawrence story. His attitude changed when it turned out Neville Lawrence had done some work on his house and contacted him directly to shame him. Yes, after the change of heart the coverage was good. But that doesn't give Dacre a free pass for years of demonisation and racism.

'His parents have launched their fight to bring his killers to book. There's a protest riot. The Mail does an interview with Neville and Doreen and uses a photograph of them that "seems to imply that we had caused the riot". Wrong, wrong, wrong. But how do you put it right?
"That was when we remembered that Neville had done some building work at the house of Paul Dacre … and Neville was able, through other journalists, to reach him on the phone and asked him 'How could you do that, and you know me?'". Whereupon the Mail became "surprisingly supportive" of the Lawrence cause. The human spark had turned into a flame. Human contact had made all the difference – and launched a pretty remorseless campaign across front page after front page.'
