It's pretty insulting though, if I worked abroad and somone always talked to me in a fake Irish accent I wouldn't stand for that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My ex manager was irish and she loved it when people bantered with her in an irish accent. Was hilarious watching back and forth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe she liked it, would bother me as I'd find it very annoying and a bit patronising and I would quickly tell them to stop it.

I wouldn't walk across to the Indian lads on my floor here and start talking like Apu from the Simpsons, I feel embarassed even thinking about it

If you have the type of relationship with someone where they don't mind and it's all in jset that's once thing, but if you don't like it you have the right to say so.

I wonder if she asked him to stop it and he kept on doing it, if she didn't he would Iassume she was OK with it and would keep doing it, if she just went off and complained without ever saying it to him eithe rdirectly or indirecty then that's a different situation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
wouldn't be a first time a man didn't understand a woman lol.

But we don't know the details like I said.

People say white people say how people should feel.
Which they shouldnt if they ever do.
But on the flip side, people need to look at where it come to, was he trying to be offensive, a gk coach, to one of his players?really? I doubt it, was it ignorant and is it stupid. Most definitely.

I worked down south for 2 yrs. Had the 'northern baaaastard' song sung plenty of times. Didn't bother me one bit and I gave it back
Had all the northern jokes and gave it back

It's called banter. Nothing was ever personal or crossed the line and I don't see this fake accent as out of order either
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's that word again

It's only "banter" if it goes both ways, if one party isn't enjoying the "banter" then it's not fun for them.

You, or anyone else, doesn't get to quantify what "banter" is to the individual.

Fecking hell I hate the word "banter"

Yeah I'd agree on that Nick I find it hard to believe he'd be purposefully racist towards a player, especially with all the focus on race in the past few years.

He could just be real stupid and thinks he's funny.

This is small compared to what the manager was coming out with but that was the culture he bought into the group and he thought he could get away with it. No surprise other coaches thought they could use there own interpretation.

Probably this, but it's just insensitive and no need. Unless Aluko has previously bantered with him before and there were clear indications she does not mind a bit of racial banter and jokes.

Northerners are a different species, never mind a different race. Blooming Neanderthals.

Its all about context, if she is taking the FA to an unfair dismissal tribunal then she has every right to highlight incidents in how she was treated differently to other players.

And if any one of you southern poofs call me a sweaty sock again I'm going to ram my fist into your smarmy, self satiffied mush's. /////

I can't ever imagine doing what he did to a black person without making sure they were 100% ok with it.

posted on 20/10/17

The difference here is that this was a work situation.

Anyone doing that in a place of work like an office would be hauled up before HR without a second's thought.

Especially when the FA are spending huge sums of money and promotion of anti racism messages.

Call it banter, stupidity or anything else you like; it's racism and racism in a high profile and public workplace.

Again, being southern or northern has no place in this argument as a point. Come on now

Having listened to her speak you can only presume it was incredibly ignorant or worse. She speaks like a newsreader so what other reason is there to use a jafakeun accent when speaking to her regularly?
If it was just once then not really an issue though.
Leave jafakeun accents to the teenage white kids where I live.

Of course she has a point. It isn't even about race, if someone kept using a Scouse accent to talk to a Manc - because all Northerners are the same - would get on your nerves I am sure.
