I am guessing Nick, Man Python and Stretty are white and have never faced racism at all or to the levels I have or other ethnic minorities have. That's the only explanation I have.

classic. When losing an argument spout some nonsense. Trying to pass off your experiences onto a totally seperate incident where we don't have all the details. Moron.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really at all. You will never understand. That's the basis of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again nothing to do with anything, and being attacked soley because your white probably means you understand somewhat surely? But no need getting into that debate.

We're talking about an incident which we don't have any details and you're getting your knickers in a twist.

Strettyit's easy to sit back and say "suck it up" or whatever, much harder to try empathise with her situation, you might see it as harmless "banter" doesn't mean she has to.

Yeah, you really can imagine David Brent putting on a Caribbean accent to one of his black workers as if it's a deleted scene from The Office.

No one get's to define what someone gets offended by, too many people think they can speak for another geneder / race.

Fact of the matter is a white man doesn't know what it's like to be ablack woman, therefore has zero right to say "suck it up".

Here's an analogy, I'm a Liverpool fan, if I wanted to (I wouldn't of course) I could start making jokes about Munich, thinking this is hilarious "banter".

United fans would rightly be very very angry with me, can I just go "suck it up" because I think it's funny laughing about what happened in Munich?

What this thread needs is a voice of reason.

Unfortunately you have got me.

What this is, is:-

1. Stupid

2. Very insulting

3. Condesending

4. Ignorant.

What this isn't is racist. I can understand why some think it is and that is down to being brought up in this PC culture where offence is found under every single stone.

I read the article and the girl in question isn't claiming it as racist either.

These analogies being bandied around are missing the mark, a bit. He did a fake Caribbean accent, and she's not of Caribbean descent.

What's the connection between Nigeria and the Caribbean? It wouldn't be that the populations are both predominantly black, would it? Can anybody think of any other connection?

She probably wouldn't have made such a big deal about it, if there hadn't been other instances of dinosaur, boorish behaviour, and if the dinosaur FA understood that boundaries need to be drawn demarcating the difference between a coach and a drinking-mate.

The teaching profession has to do it, and if the FA had done it decades ago, maybe there wouldn't have been so many instances of physical abuse, either. Maybe have a routine procedure for dealing with complaints, other than trying to buy off their silence? You know, like, basic, 21st century professionalism in a multi billion pound sport.

She says "He may not have been aware of how annoying it got.". Oh, God, it makes me cringe, I can feel her pain

Stereotypes are formulas for brainless people to try being funny, and when she says "he may not have been aware of how annoying it got", you can almost hear the eejit going on and on and on, fondly believing himself to be engaging in "banter", and being about as funny as a traffic-light.

Not even realising, the cretin, that it wasn't even a very accurate stereotype of somebody of Nigerian descent, to say the least. The dinosaur FA needs to start being a bit more professional about what represents an appropriate relationship for a coach.

We've moved on from the days when people in positions of responsibility could fvck with people's heads for a laugh (or at least, we're trying to, and it's not even as if the "laughs" are worth it).

Yeah lets use an analogy of a tragedy where loads of people died to someone faking an accent. Jesus christ

Yet still no one has explained how faking a Caribbean accent is any different to faking a northern, welsh scottish etc etc

What people like toplad misconstrue about things like this is they don't differentiate between racial abuse, and saying something that is just stupid and put them in the same pot. Abuse is a terrible terrible thing and some of the things i've seen friends go through is woeful.

Nobody can tell someone else how to feel, but i'd feel the same if it was anyone, crying about say someone calling them a funny name, compared to verbally abusing them about their family or heritage.

But things like this that are (supposedly) not meant to be abusive there is no need getting your knickers in a twist about. Even by aluko's admission he is not meaning to be abusive.

But toplad would rather spout rubbish about other things that have happened to him, how self centered.

Isn't it funny how people seem to think they can decide for others as to what makes them angry or victimised in a work situation?

You don't get to decide for exactly that reason, hence there are workplace laws whether you think them appropriate or not.

Dearie me.

I don't think it is racist, but it is certainly stupid and ignorant. Another example of someone thinking that they are funny when they aren't and being overly familiar with a colleague.

Again though, the laws in place are there to ensure that employers abide by them and they have to demonstrate that there was no racism or any other form of "abuse" by having these types of incidents investigated. That's whether the "victim" thinks they were abused or not. It doesn't matter. It's down to the employer to demonstrate to all its workforce that this kind of behaviour isn't tolerated.

The only way they can do that is to have an internal investigation which as far as we all know is exactly what they are doing.

It's only "banter" if it goes both ways, if one party isn't enjoying the "banter" then it's not fun for them.

so?
