How sleazy is Owen Paterson?
No only the corrupt cash for access, which is bad enough, but the tragedy of his wife's suicide being used as an emotional excuse is disgusting.
The fact Johnson isn't distancing himself from this creep and in factnis drawing him in closer, is vile!
No more high horse lectures on morality from any Conservative after this.

Yeah but use a certain S word and everyone loses their minds
They're either worried if this stands then the whole cabinet are in danger for their lobbying/VIP lane procurement
Or
This is Johnson looking to really show that democracy is just a sham in the UK and he rules

He knows this already. Look at the aftermath of the Patel bullying report. The lack of answers on who pays for things like refurbishing No10, who pays for his holidays etc

Paterson was found (unequivocally) to have repeatedly used his position to benefit two companies who paid him tens of thousands of pounds as a consultant.
https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/290/committee-on-standards/news/158246/committee-on-standards-publish-report-on-the-conduct-of-rt-hon-owen-paterson-mp/
The Committee also compiled a number of reports, as well as written and oral evidence when considering the matter, prior to reaching it's decision.
https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/290/committee-on-standards/publications/
Putting the merits of the (cross party) committees’ findings to one side, the government plan to replace the standards committee with a less impartial (more conservative MPs) body. With its chair (also a conservative MP) having the ultimate say on the committee’s decision.
Which of course is entirely coincidental, and has no relevance whatsoever to the Paterson report.

I heard an interview with him on LBC a few months ago and he came across very well, talked about the foundation he set up in his wife’s memory said there was no reason given or awareness of her being depressed.
Now it’s this investigation drive my wife to suicide, it’s utterly repellent and the fact the Tory party are using this to rewrite the rules while previously saying nothing can be done after the fact in reference to a someone found guilty of sexual Harassment is particularly disgusting.
And if the investigation is the actual reason his wife killed herself then Owen should be utterly ashamed his corrupt behaviour drove her to it.
Chris Bryant (chair of the commons standards committee) gave a forensic analysis of the Paterson case.
The decision (to overrule Paterson's suspension) effectively endorses/legitimises cash for questions.

It’s the apathy from certain members of the voting public and, supposed, free press that gets me.
Cash for questions was part of what took down the last Tory government, they weren’t about to let something similar happen again once the cash for contracts investigations begun. But many many people, including a number on this site and on this thread, will continue to vote for, defend, support, endorse and go to bat for this sickening excuse for a government. As the shouts from the chamber made clear; shame.

Of course. Folk vote for lots of different reasons and some people might not give a toss about corruption. And those that continue to support the conservatives so in the context of this recent decision. Perhaps it’s the lapse Catholic who is strongly anti-theist in me but I demand and expect more from those in power than corruption.
The full report that WWPSD (who else) shared is extremely thorough and having read the first part forensically and skimmed the rest of it, it is an open and shut case.
