This pub vaccine pass malarkey seems very unfair if by May 17 when they are allowed to open indoors, most people under the age of 40 will still not have been invited for a jab.

I think this is the usual media making a mountain out of a molehill.

He didn’t say it would happen and now it’s been taken as verbatim

Why does the UK government appear to be obsessed with flags?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessed is somewhat hyperbolic but I’ll give you my thoughts.

1. Growing resentment to many things British including the flag.
2. Reclaiming its use - it’s been heavily by groups with negative connotations so they’re probably trying to change what people think of when they see the flag
3. The BBC has an axe to grind on the topic as they got pulled up on flags recently
4. Yes I’m sure it’s a tactic to keep and gain further support from those who are more proud of this country than others, don’t really see a problem with that even though we’re supposed to be ashamed of our foreigner-hating, evil country blah blah
5. I struggle to think of another country where the national flag is such an issue for people. Just because a country or a system isn’t perfect doesn’t mean that it’s not right to be proud of it. Perfection doesn’t exist.
6. It’s a nice looking flag 😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the only thing that unites us. 😂

It's odd that those that have an issue with flags call those that don't flag sh*ggers. It seems the haters are the emotive ones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they’re behaving childishly, only an extremely immature person would use such a phrase to describe people that like the nations flag.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine getting so worked up over your own country's flag. 😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s very strange
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy to have stimulated such dialogue between you both.

To be clear, I did say “appear to be obsessed”, which was based on my interpretation as opposed to stating a fact, and so would suggest calling what I said “hyperbolic” is..... HYPERBOLIC

BOOM, GOTCHA! Winner winner chicken dinner!!!

Jesting aside, let me address the substance.

It is genuine resentment or is it embarrassment at the Americanisation in the use of the flag as somehow a proxy of being British? I did think as a nation we were beyond that kind of reductive “flag-waving”.

Who are “they” reclaiming the flag “from”? When I think of it it’s last night of the proms, London 2012, Brexit (which despite my personal objections is obviously popular with at least 18m people). I thought that it was the St George Flag that had been taken by the people I think you’re referencing.

I’m not sure how the policy statement from the government relates to the BBC. When I linked the article I was commenting on the government policy, not the company reporting on it.

I’m not sure who is making you feel ashamed of this country (hopefully not me, despite our political differences!). I would suggest people may feel more ashamed with the UK government as opposed to the UK as a whole.

And is it really an “issue” for people? I mean I find it faintly amusing the sudden surge of flag positioning, and from what I have seen I think that is not an entirely uncommon position, but to say that people with that thought have “an issue” is not something I can agree with.

The flag is absolutely not the only thing that unites us, and I think particularly in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland it has the opposite effect. Team GB at the olympics, GBBO, the NHS, Strictly, the Lake District. These are the sort of images that are much more uniting in reality than a flag.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: Oh, they have a flag in the background.

You: They have a flag in the background. I must use social media!!!!

As for the unites us, you're being a bit pedantic. We are all British. We belong to the same group. It unites us.

And certainly more than facking Strictly.🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What is more accurate is

They: we must have a policy on flag
Me: why?

Don’t attempt to try to pigeon hole me as a flag hater or the like, I’d have hoped my bemusement would have been evidence from my posts on the topic. If we are all British, and that is known, why does the government feel the need for a new policy on mandatory flag waving?

Morning mate.

Flegs...glad we got over all that here and in Glasgow, the.

Would you, or Scots generally, blink an eye at Sturgeon having a Scottish flag about her?

In Dublin, we see the Irish flag in the background when leaders are on tv and nobody brings it up, apart from me now lol.

Those who post about "flagsh@ggers" seem to be the ones obsessing about the flag issue, and not aimed at you bro.

It's just a wee piece of cloth and never hurt nobody.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I genuinely wouldn’t care about what sturgeon stood in front of. More just general bemusement at how it is something that needs a policy change. I wouldn’t go down the road of calling folk flag sheggers, which comes across as slightly mean spirited mocking of a policy.

Honestly the Labour Party should just fold, what is the point in them? They’re not even opposition anymore they literally support everything the government does or they abstain

BREAKING NEWS: Pubs, Nightclubs and Restaurants will only be able to scrap social distancing and mask rules if they operate coronavirus status check. If they decline they will have to stick to current rules and regulations.

So now the government are basically forcing them into doing it

posted on 25/3/21

Weird as well because initially for 3-4 months there won’t be any checks but then they’re going to bring in the checks, what’s the point doing it 3-4 months later. Bit like when they did the masks in supermarkets they brought it in after the first wave Lol

Eh?

Where’s this from?

they wont bring it in, hospitality staff are not the police there to enforce these laws they bring in it is ridiculous, the majority of my staff wont have had the vaccine by then as they are young, are they not allowed to work then?

posted on 25/3/21

Of course they will or they wouldn’t have basically dropped it to get the reaction and duly the moron brainwashed bedwetters all support it

Plus the loophole is it includes test status or antibody evidence as well as vaccine

Nah mate. Listen to what he says. He acknowledges travel by aviation makes sense but everything around pubs is very unlikely and only when everyone has been offered a vaccine. It won’t happen.

posted on 25/3/21

It’s a weird logic I can’t get my head round, if the vaccine works then why does it matter if a minority of people haven’t been vaccinated and if the vaccine doesn’t work then it’s still pointless anyway

Like there’s no actual logic or adequate reasoning for it

Union flag what an oxymoron.

It's just another right wing culture war front like statues, a complete irrelevance to unite the old fashioned 'Patriots' against the communist traitors and it's being gobbled up by the 'own the libs' brigade.
Rule Britannia lads Boris roolz ok.

We’ll see but honestly I don’t get it. I think some people are dumb and don’t understand the %’s. They think this 90% or 98% means they still have a chance of dying. The vaccine is 100% effective at getting any more than a bad cold, so if I’ve been jabbed I really couldn’t give a $hit if some young kid or someone that doesn’t want it hasn’t because it’s of no concern to me

But they’re making it out like its not 100% at severe covid, which is why I think so many morons are blindly thinking they could still die unless every man woman child and pet has been vaccinated.

Slimey from the government, but smart. But again I don’t get what their deal is and what they’re trying, they’ve always wanted an ID Card and it smells like they’re trying to get that done via COVID as a excuse, and travel is facked still because of Brexit but again COVID is being used as an excuse / barrier to hide the failings

posted on 25/3/21

Gets to the point where I seriously begin to wonder what the government are trying to get out of here. I ain’t a conspiracy theorist and think they’re loons (albeit for once they have actually been right about quite a lot) but even I’m really starting to smell something fishy going on here now as there’s no logic or basis for what is being strongly suggested

The vaccine isn’t 100% effective mate.

Some people will not be able to take the vaccine or it won’t improve their immunity. We also don’t know how long immunity lasts yet. There will be variants.

All that considered I agree the chances are now ridiculously low and decreasing by the week and the more the roll out continues.

Many of the rules and especially laws are pretty meaningless now. Imagine being in a country where you can be criminalised for popping next door for a cup of tea when around 50% of the adult population is vaccines and [tactically all the at risk groups?

Mental.
