Why does the UK government appear to be obsessed with flags?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessed is somewhat hyperbolic but I’ll give you my thoughts.
1. Growing resentment to many things British including the flag.
2. Reclaiming its use - it’s been heavily by groups with negative connotations so they’re probably trying to change what people think of when they see the flag
3. The BBC has an axe to grind on the topic as they got pulled up on flags recently
4. Yes I’m sure it’s a tactic to keep and gain further support from those who are more proud of this country than others, don’t really see a problem with that even though we’re supposed to be ashamed of our foreigner-hating, evil country blah blah
5. I struggle to think of another country where the national flag is such an issue for people. Just because a country or a system isn’t perfect doesn’t mean that it’s not right to be proud of it. Perfection doesn’t exist.
6. It’s a nice looking flag 😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Every time I see a story about the Union flag I fear it's going to upset some of the 'fleggers' here, and cause further unrest. As flags/emblems haven't exactly been a matter that has transcended communities here!
The Union flag will now be flown on government buildings every day...

Personally I dislike how governments since Blair co-opt the flag which is the symbol of a nation, not the administration of Downing Street.
Nevertheless, the reason most people largely on the left are hostile to the flag is not because they see an issue here but because they see the flag as a racist, problematic symbol of a country they see as a fallen nation. So, their mockery and sneering of it and constantly accusing people of flag shegging and jingoism is alienating and a huge vote winner for Tories frankly.

Unionists will be unhappy as the UK has implemented more new legislation in GB which won't be applied here.
DUP are currently threatening to disband the executive over the NIP, and this will not do anything to appease unionist displeasure.

Not even going to bother carrying on with that
It's simple, we had more control over our borders and more agreements in place before brexit
Another lie from them that saw the country shoot itself in the foot
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you have shot yourself in the foot? 😂😂
So you want more control over the borders and be able to kick people out easier?
🤣🤣🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I want us to do more to represent the values of this country
I just find it interesting that in an act of xenophobia we actually made some of the stated aims harder to achieve
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which you must see as a positive if you believe it's counter xenophobia?

What on earth are you on about now?
