Ed Miliband just shut down the cretins on GMTV re having flags in the background and on Government buildings.

It’s the flag of the union, if it offends people so what.
You do realise every country/union has one
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mentioned nothing about people being offended.
I am of course aware that every country/Union has one. I am commenting on an apparent change in policy as per the original link, combined with the uptick in recent weeks of flag presence on various calls of member of the government with the media. And I am wondering why the change. Why do you think there has been a change Fat Pranks?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t really care to be honest, I do see why people would care.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So I didn’t ask if you cared, I asked why you thought there had been a change. I guess you posting about it might have led me to infer that you had a passing interest in the topic.

No I was just intrigued and amused at the culture war rambling
As above maybe it’s not aimed at winning voters such as me over, I really just find it bizarre but assume there must be some tactical angle to them doing so.
I agree about the union flag only if it’s flown upside down

Why does the UK government appear to be obsessed with flags?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessed is somewhat hyperbolic but I’ll give you my thoughts.
1. Growing resentment to many things British including the flag.
2. Reclaiming its use - it’s been heavily by groups with negative connotations so they’re probably trying to change what people think of when they see the flag
3. The BBC has an axe to grind on the topic as they got pulled up on flags recently
4. Yes I’m sure it’s a tactic to keep and gain further support from those who are more proud of this country than others, don’t really see a problem with that even though we’re supposed to be ashamed of our foreigner-hating, evil country blah blah
5. I struggle to think of another country where the national flag is such an issue for people. Just because a country or a system isn’t perfect doesn’t mean that it’s not right to be proud of it. Perfection doesn’t exist.
6. It’s a nice looking flag 😂

It's the only thing that unites us. 😂
It's odd that those that have an issue with flags call those that don't flag sh*ggers. It seems the haters are the emotive ones.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they’re behaving childishly, only an extremely immature person would use such a phrase to describe people that like the nations flag.

As I put in another post. It's the only thing that unites us. Considering how divided the country has been on so many issues, it can't be bad to promote unity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They should change the flag to include BLM for proper unity though, oh and put some rainbow 🌈 in there too

Every time I see a story about the Union flag I fear it's going to upset some of the 'fleggers' here, and cause further unrest. As flags/emblems haven't exactly been a matter that has transcended communities here!
The Union flag will now be flown on government buildings every day...

...which contravenes legislation brought in here to resolve a long standing flag dispute between unionists and nationalists.

BBC understands that no failed asylum seekers, who crossed the Channel from France, have been sent back there or to other EU states since the end of Brexit. Confirms what we thought - lack of legal agreement with EU is making returns impossible.

Wouldn't they be sent back to their homeland??

Sent back to the country they fled? 🤔
