I have a feeling that Master Smith gonna rip again visitor’s poor bowling line up!
I hope so but it looks a good pitch, not a flat road but better than 233/5. A bit of talk about why we didn't send out a night watchman in this scenario which I agree seems odd considering we always do it.
Woke up at 5:30 to watch it, all going really well with Root and Malan, only for the new ball with that late movement from Starc to remove Root, was a stupid shot like the hook, there is no reason to play that shot with a few overs left
Second stupid move was sending in Bairstow and not Crane or Curran.
I know the series is lost but stupid shots lose test matches, now we're looking at maybe 300+ rather than 450.

Not really sure, someone suggested that the batsman decides if they want to go out or send a night watchman in. I think the argument for it covers for Root's sloppy dismissal though. Should have just seen off the last couple of overs with the new ball.
I wonder whether Smith will throw the ball to Lyon early, the new ball is only into it's second over but 6 of his 7 dismissals have been to Lyon and Moeen will probably just try and hit himself back into form again.
The night watchman thing is just a distraction because he got out. Commentators just looking for something to criticise
Aussies never send out a night watchman and previously it was all "by sending in a tail ender you can lose another wicket and 6 down looks worse than 5 down ..."
Likes of Willis were arguing that a professional.batsman should be able to.adapt his game and see out the day
Now the Kant's are blaming the managent for not sending out a tailender
There is a legitimate question to be asked about a nightwatchman.
And plenty of other questions are being asked as well.

Yeah how come we didn’t send in a night watchman?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have no idea, worst case Curran gets out last ball then Malan and Bairstow survive the first hour tomorrow and get through the new ball
Now Moeen will get picked off by Lyon again!!
Curran comes in and goes to Starc or Hazlewood and then we're into the tail hoping Malan stays in
Broad to make a quick 50 would be nice,

Its the complete uturn that's annoying.
FYI with a new ball and only a few overs to go I personally would have gone with a night watchman
I remember probably some 15 years ago now when Trescothick went out to bat (presumably with Vaughan) because England had 1 solitary over to negotiate before the close, he got out and England were criticised for not using a night watchman. He said something like "I'm an opener, if anyone is in the best position to see out this over, its me".
Bairstow was right to take responsibility in my opinion but it does surprise me that Jimmy wasn't sent out. We've always used one, even in a second innings when we were building a lead and were some 400 runs ahead with only 3 or 4 wickets down.
Once that new ball came in and Starc and Hazlewood had it my heart sunk

Biggest one being why did captain and coach allegedly leave it to bairstow to decide...if so..weak...very weak.
It'll matter not after Mooen smashes a quick double ton tomorrow off 70 balls supporting Malan to 150 as we declare on 550/5 just after lunch.

I don't think anyone has called England amazing, they were called the worst touring party ever to go to Australia. Obviously a lot of that is hyperbole as everything either needs to be the best or worst rather than one of the best or worst to stir up debate. However it does show what people thought of our squad as we lacked a proper spinner (as Crane is very raw), a genuine quick, an experienced top order and Stokes.
Whatever happens tomorrow, Smith as always, holds the key to Australia's innings. They're as reliant on him as Spurs are on Kane. It's just a shame they're both so bloody good.
By his high standards, a really poor series from Root, have no idea why he prefers to bat at 4, he was so much better at 3.
Got to be aiming for 350 runs here minimum,
As Sir Geoffrey is always saying..............just add 2 wickets on ............... well he got his wish, awful sloppiness from England.... we'll be out for 300 & then Smith will score big , 550 ao or declared... then we'll lose by 8 wickets...
That's a bit optimistic of you. You actually think we'd score 250 in our second dig + however many we need to nip out a couple of their batsmen out before they win?
Bancroft and Khawaja are wickets waiting to happen, only Smith and Warner will be a real danger to be honest
