correct and I agree.
To be quite candid, boxers tend to be fairly ignorant and uneducated on many things. That's not to say they are unintelligent but simply they spend most of their efforts in honing their physical attributes and boxing skills, as opposed to say, reading a book or learning about different cultures.

seems to be the case with most sports and even more more so with individual sports (especially working class sports) these people spend so much time honing their skills and are so focussed that they usually struggle to develop social skills and or an education !!

I think it's naive and disrespectful to assume boxers aren't intelligent. I think the more accurate phrase would be "rational".
Usyk's a very intelligent fighter, and seems like a very intelligent bloke.
Do you take every term of phrase literally?
Boxing has long been considered the sweet science because simply being able to fight isn't enough to succeed in the sport. You need to be able to outsmart your opponent through strategic gameplans.
Bernard Hopkins is far from stupid .... Nathan cleverly as his name suggests..... sugar ray robinson, sugar ray leonard. all had brains.
However I also think judging intelligence purely on academics is incorrect
I’m having a laugh, but it is a matter of fact that being punched in the head regularly will cognitively impair someone.

I agree. It's not a rational decision that the average person would make but fighters are cut from a different and some would say, strange cloth.
Just to get back to AJ. I watched the fight back and despite there being clear improvements in his performance, his corner were poor. They kept telling him that he was winning the fight when he clearly wasn't. If you look at this face when the decision is given to Usyk, he looks shocked. As many have said, there are too many yes men around AJ and he needs a thorough clear out before his next fight.
Whoever he chooses as his next trainer, needs to be a long term pick.

"I am Phil" yeah he's Einstein
Watching round 9 again, I think I was slightly harsh saying AJ should have been more aggressive after hurting Usyk. He did take a slight breather though to allow Usyk to hold, which for an elite athlete was pretty lame.
HOWEVER 1.40-1.10 to go in round 10 he catches Usyk solid, and then he truly fails to follow it up (and took some punishment himself as a result).
Can only think that that's a fighter whose corner's told him he's won every round (or a fighter who just can't dig that deep).

One thing was certain, AJ was in better shape in this fight than the first.

Also, although it doesn't excuse his antics, perhaps he was so convinced by what his corner had been telling him, that right after the fight he was feeling that it was a case of daylight robbery by the judges.
Who knows. Anyway, I don't agree with the comment earlier today that AJ likely feels like there's nothing more he could have done. Maybe he couldn't have done any more in training (although I understand his team thought Usyk was going to be much heavier than her was), but wrt the fight I think he'll be kicking himself that he wasn't more aggressive at the key points in round 9 and in particular 10.

I think AJ’s been too pampered, like everything his own way his in charge all yes man
Too late now but needed someone with a backbone and to go a bit old school like a Booth or Ingle or Stubbs
But then equally I think AJ’s too arrogant for that, I think he wants Yes men these days. Can see he ain’t hungry anymore
Agree, he may be too vain to hear criticism.
At the end of round 1, the trainer was talking about this that and the other. AJ picks up on 1 thing he says, "the rhythm's better?" That was all he wanted to hear, just "you're the best champ, you look so good".

It's difficult to create a bond at this stage. He probably has 2-3 years left in the sport.
His arrogance can be tempered with the right person in charge. He needs someone that he looks up to in the sport. A Roy Jones or even Lennox Lewis, although the latter would take some work.
