What is Labour's plan re the four day working week, for the NHS?

They seemed to contradict themselves yesterday when they stated it wouldn't apply to NHS workers but also that it would. And if they plan to put 26bn into the NHS, where will this money go on the assumption there is reduced working hours.

Personally I think a four day working week for emergency services is a terrible idea
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Most emergency services operate on 4 day shift patterns anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

4 on 3 off or visa versa
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So Palmers_Spur thinks the way the emergency services currently operate is a terrible idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

did i say that you fool
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. You said a four day working week for emergency services was a terrible idea. They currently operate mostly on 4 day shift patterns.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But that's not the same is it. Stop adding two and two and making five. I'm suggesting trying to apply a blanket four day week to emergency services wouldn't work since it relies largely on shift work and on-call work etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is what it does presently with a 5 day week. So what point are you trying to make?

Free?

Who pays for it then?

Who pays for the infrastructure that’s already been invested in by the current providers?

How do you go about changing provider if you’re not happy with the service you’re getting?

Bloody Corbyn and his magic money tree to the rescue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, that’ll be the same magic money tree that the Tories have magically found just before an election.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That magic tree is called borrowing.

Conservatives hav said about £20bn extra borrowing, which sets a new cap of about 3% of GDP.

Labour are proposing £55bn extra borrowing, about 5% of GDP. Last time it was this high, 1976, Britain faced financial crisis. The Labour government was forced to apply to the IMF for a loan of nearly $4 billion. IMF negotiators insisted on deep cuts in public expenditure, greatly affecting economic and social policy.

Brings to mind the famous quote, Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Jeremy, the 1970s are calling, they want their policies back!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think they could get some money but not letting billionaires avoid oodles of tax?

Either way the Tories have managed to not only be complicit towards the death of thousands upon thousands of deaths but they did so by managing to double the deficit in the process,

NBot saying you do but across the board if you vote Tory you don't give a sh!t about people and you're a cvnt imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But consider where we would be....sure austerity has been too deep and too long in some areas but Christ! where would our borrowing be now if austerity had not happened....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thousands of people have been and still are literally dying due to the severe austerity cuts. That cant be right, under no circumstances.

Free Wifi is a terrible idea.

It'll be slow and unreliable due to high bandwidth demands.

What does this mean for other providers like Virgin, Sky, etc... Money talks and I'm sure it'll be blocked.

I need high download and upload speeds for work. I doubt a free service would be any better than the Wifi you get at your local hospital.

Money should be spent elsewhere.

On the subject of Wifi we recently switched from BT after loads of issues and bundled it with our TV from Sky and it's been great

TBH I don't like the free wifi idea. They should focus purely on not being Tories and keeping the NHS and hope that people actually have a soul.

This notion that socialism and bringing public services cannot work is the biggest right wing con of modern times. Frances railway works just fine.

I work in IT alongside network and infrastructure engineers.

Any idea how much infrastructure will be needed to be put in place to provide network access to 10s of millions of people!?

It'd be a hugely costly exercise. To make it worthwhile, quick and accessible, billions would probably need to be spent. Then you'd need to compensate the major corporations that'd be hurt from loss of income.

It will never happen.

I would vote Tory over Labour as it stands now.

Corbyn is that bad in my opinion, but I wouldn’t be calling somebody a cvnt for having different priorities or opinions.

Kinder, gentler politics my arris.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This may come as a shock to you but there is this thing called diversity of thought.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I'm all for that but the Tories ffs

Awful policy.

Funny how humans make the same mistakes over and over - as if the nationalisation of this and other industries would be a good thing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolute waffle Winston, privitization is the single biggest factor in the sky rocketing prices for public transport for example.

Humans haven't made any mistakes here you are poorly informed
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh really?

Maybe you'd like to have a little research back into what a nationalised service is like for utilities.

Let me know how you get on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a look and haven't changed my mind
----------------------------------------------------------------------

More fool you.

Nope

That's the nature of British politics. If someone sees someone get something, their attitude is never 'how do I get that', but always 'why should they have it if I don't'.

Its the reason why political campaigns are always so focussed on the opposition party too. The Tories will spend more time telling you why Labour's policies are but than they will ever tell you about something they could do that is good.

People should pay for their own luxaries.

Imagine the difference that would make to the NHS.

As somebody with no political allegiances I find this thread quite embarrassing from some of the Labour supporters. Anyone who disagrees with them is essentially evil

People can vote for whoever they want for whatever reason they want. No need to have a hissy fit whenever someone supports another party, that's their perogative.

And FYI, I am not voting for the conservatives either, before you lynch me.

It really is that simple.

So, if you don't want Corbyn, you automatically want these things:

You want schools to be underfunded and open part time
You want there to be too few Police
You want nurses to be underpaid
You want chidlren to be hungry
You want people dying on the streets
You want people failed on their health assessments on purpose
You want your own citizens to be deported after 50 years here
You want Grenfell
You want poor public services

Outstanding levels of debate here.
