----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed but its certainly not out of the question.
I agree with Sandy, I can’t see football until January 2021. There will be no euro competition and the cups will be scrapped. Two games a week every week for 20 ish weeks will let them play a whole league calendar in that time and still have time for the euros before kicking off the following season in August.
Protecting the new season over the existing season being completed will be the priority for the majority of clubs. Bearing in mind the finances, if you ask Southampton for instance, do you want money for 9 games or for 38, then the answer is pretty simple. The fans of certain clubs won’t like it, but it’s a business at the end of the day.
As for how they complete things off, I think they can give Liverpool the league, cancel relegation and give Leeds and West Brom promotion - extend the league from 19 weeks to 21 (2 games a week). European spots won’t be an issue as there won’t be any European football.

It was only a few days ago a few people on where were laughing at the fact some felt voiding was a plausible option. Now it appears it is at least up for discussion, yet we were being laughed at to even suggest it would be in the discussion.

By the same token, article after article and comment after comment has been made confirming that the season will/should be voided and "tough luck to Liverpool", "can't hand titles for an incomplete season" etc.
Now it appears it is at least up for discussion, yet we were being laughed at to even suggest it would be in the discussion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody is saying anything is not up for discussion. But the simplest and cleanest way is to void and end the season. That way you get a definitive end. All teams have the same outcome. That at least puts it to bed, once and for all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it's the simplest way. That doesn't mean it's the fairest way. Without getting into the fact that some clubs rely on the income, for the remaining games this season, one club is 25 points clear. This is not the same as the Dutch league where two teams are tied at the top.
If the seasons ends, it will be as it stands, like in Belgium or potentially Scotland, where one team were a considerable distance ahead.
Obviously the fans with nothing to lose won't like this but void is simply not a likely scenario.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What posts like this don't consider is that yes its dreadful if a team lose the gate receipts for 5 or 6 games (especially in lower divs) but its alot better than 23 games.
Protecting next season must be the priority.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What has 23 games got to do with anything?
No protecting next season must not be the priority. The priority should be protecting the season that's already 75% complete.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You just can't see beyond Liverpool.
Of course losing 23 home games income will destroy many Champs, league 1 and 2 teams.
Next season cannot be jeopardised to complete this one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You just can't see beyond Spurs.
Who is losing 23 home games and why?
This season has to be priority at this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does null and void benefit Spurs?
With Kane, Son and Sissoko back theres a good chance we would finish the season strongly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're crap, have Mourinho as manager, your best player wants out and have nothing to play for.

Liverpool fans aren't pushing anything. The FA, PL and UEFA have all stated they want the season to finish. The PL have stated the clubs are committed to finishing it and extended the season indefinitely. UEFA putting in place the ability to extend contracts until season end and extending the transfer window. What do Liverpool fans need to push? We're just going with what has been agreed at this time. If that changes then we'll have to go with that.

“ You're crap, have Mourinho as manager, your best player wants out and have nothing to play for.”
While I do agree to a certain amount I have to remind from when mourinho got hired and we lost out two star attackers we had won the second or third amount of points in the league.
So that shows we could have a very good end of the season with them back.

But still voiding the season would give you a better chance of gaining CL football than playing it out, either by reverting to last season or by invitation based on coefficients perhaps.
Imagine if the leagues are cancelled, and promotions, relegations and league winners are handed out on current league standings, that is wholly unfair and not in accordance with the rules set out.
The clubs involved will be ridiculed for eternity, rival fans will be reminding them repeatedly about the promotion they gained (but didn`t really), there would be universal bad feeling among fans and some clubs, a complete hornets nest of preferential and discriminatory resolution.

Norwich are 6 points adrift but while they can mathematically survive you can't relegate them in the same way that Spurs could still get cl.
I can't believe I'm gonna answer your question but I will. If the season restarts in late summer it leaves no time to play the whole 20/21 campaign (City and Utd have potentially 19/18 games left). Therefore we will be losing a complete season for 25% of another. 1 is greater than 0.25 so 20/21 must be the priority.
So for example Stevenage will get to play their remaining home games for this season and lose 23 for the next. I hope that hits home because it isn't rocket science.

I think behind closed doors football is something we might have to come to terms with. Sports crowds of that size will be the last thing that's allowed to happen as we recover from this.
Its either BCD or nothing at all until the health experts give the all clear IMO.
So for example Stevenage will get to play their remaining home games for this season and lose 23 for the next. I hope that hits home because it isn't rocket science.
------
The problem is that that would happen anyway under the circumstances you present.
So if this season is voided does that mean Covid will magically disappear so we can start next season in August? Even if it starts in August, it will be behind closed doors.
This leads me to my next point. A club like Stevenage and others at that level of the pyramid don't rely on TV money that much, they rely on gates and match day revenue mostly.
Fans will not be attending games for the foreseeable future. Clubs will not be selling season tickets because its not known when fans will be able to attend games. In fact, season tickets will probably be refunded.
These clubs are in big trouble as it stands. Voiding this season is stupid and won't help then in any way. If it did, they would do it. It will also mean forfeiture of moneys paid/rebates and will put clubs in more trouble, not less trouble.
These clubs need a package and proposal that provides a framework for how they can survive this.
Hopefully when testing begins next week we will see an improvement.
Playing behind closed doors is only feasible if it is 100% safe to do so, and only fair if the entire season can be played behind closed doors under the same conditions for everybody.
Changing the rules half way through a season leads to inconsistencies with the integrity of the competition and as such becomes not entirely fair, right and proper.

BCD will help clubs in the Prem, Championship and all that can access TV to eke out an existence though. I guess that makes it worth the effort.

It's shocking how heavy Spurs fans are pushing this, compared to the rest of this site
------------------------------
Go and apply the opposite logic but to Liverpool fans instead.
Come on dude, it's right there in front of you....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool fans aren't pushing anything.

Also the PL asked UEFA and the TV companies to have agreement in place for showing all games on TV, including 3pm kickoffs, planning for playing behind closed doors.
This means void is the last option.

If it was put to a democratic vote (which it may be).
The bottom 12 clubs would be more than happy to start the new season afresh and simply write the current one off.

I wouldn't be so sure.
I've read comments from the Brighton owner and it sounds like that vote is in the bag.

Not necessarily as voiding doesn’t give the answer what happens next.
Talk being on coefficient points mean we wouldn’t get in (unless city get banned.)
I’m still want it to finish when ever safe with fans in the stadium even if it means we start in September or later but that’s just my personal opinion

Why not divide up merit payments equally and have no European competition next season, promotion and relegation has not yet been decided so is a moot point.

Hopefully when testing begins next week we will see an improvement.
posted on 22/4/20
Playing behind closed doors is only feasible if it is 100% safe to do so, and only fair if the entire season can be played behind closed doors under the same conditions for everybody.
Changing the rules half way through a season leads to inconsistencies with the integrity of the competition and as such becomes not entirely fair, right and proper.

Yes but with the fourth or fifth best record that is not enough considering you're eighth and the teams directly above and below you have a game in hand. You needed to have the best record to get ahead of all the teams above you. Too little too late and therefore, nothing to play for, which is why Spurs fans are most vocal on this site for void.

IMO, they should start next season BCD and then gradually allow fans to return. By January or February perhaps we could have the all clear.

I couldn't agree more. But if it happens, most people will appreciate the opportunity to finally have something on TV. But yeah, BCD games are inferior.
BCD will help clubs in the Prem, Championship and all that can access TV to eke out an existence though. I guess that makes it worth the effort.
