I agree with Sandy, I can’t see football until January 2021. There will be no euro competition and the cups will be scrapped. Two games a week every week for 20 ish weeks will let them play a whole league calendar in that time and still have time for the euros before kicking off the following season in August.

Protecting the new season over the existing season being completed will be the priority for the majority of clubs. Bearing in mind the finances, if you ask Southampton for instance, do you want money for 9 games or for 38, then the answer is pretty simple. The fans of certain clubs won’t like it, but it’s a business at the end of the day.

As for how they complete things off, I think they can give Liverpool the league, cancel relegation and give Leeds and West Brom promotion - extend the league from 19 weeks to 21 (2 games a week). European spots won’t be an issue as there won’t be any European football.

“ You're crap, have Mourinho as manager, your best player wants out and have nothing to play for.”

While I do agree to a certain amount I have to remind from when mourinho got hired and we lost out two star attackers we had won the second or third amount of points in the league.

So that shows we could have a very good end of the season with them back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but with the fourth or fifth best record that is not enough considering you're eighth and the teams directly above and below you have a game in hand. You needed to have the best record to get ahead of all the teams above you. Too little too late and therefore, nothing to play for, which is why Spurs fans are most vocal on this site for void.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s 7 points ( and we play three of the teams above us ) of course we have things to play for.

It might seem like it’s spurs fans but that’s only because we have the biggest fan base on the site with 3 of the biggest twaaaats thst go around saying rubbish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, 7 points, with seven teams with more points that you, the team directly above and below you with a game in hand and only 9 games left, for you. You would need several teams to do poorly and you to do better than you have been. Not very likely, is it?

I wasn't aware Spurs had the biggest fanbase on the site. Yes you do have a number of bitter idiots but also a load of good ones. Perhaps there's a misconception, as you say.

UEFA will prioritise their own competions even if it's to the detriment of domestic leagues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

UEFA at the end of the day really won`t have much of a say. They will have to take a hit, like every other business. No European Competitions for one season will hardly be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, when healthcare workers are sacrificing their lives to get this virus under control.

They will just have to go along with what their Governments dictate to them. If they say no football, then that will be it.

It’s only 4 points to united in 5th which could be a CL spot and we have to play them at home.

Like I say we still have a lot to play for

It was only a few days ago a few people on where were laughing at the fact some felt voiding was a plausible option. Now it appears it is at least up for discussion, yet we were being laughed at to even suggest it would be in the discussion.
-----
By the same token, article after article and comment after comment has been made confirming that the season will/should be voided and "tough luck to Liverpool", "can't hand titles for an incomplete season" etc.

Now it appears it is at least up for discussion, yet we were being laughed at to even suggest it would be in the discussion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nobody is saying anything is not up for discussion. But the simplest and cleanest way is to void and end the season. That way you get a definitive end. All teams have the same outcome. That at least puts it to bed, once and for all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The only problem is that it doesn't. If it was so easy they'd have done it already, instead they're heading the other way.

All teams won't have the same outcome Sandy, that's impossible. Merit payments, European qualification, promotion and relegation all mean that there is no way all teams will have the same outcome.

Reverting to last season is the same outcome?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not divide up merit payments equally and have no European competition next season, promotion and relegation has not yet been decided so is a moot point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Billy, astonishing how a lot of supporters are still talking about money and European Competitions. Clubs will lose money, so what. If there are no European Comps for a season, so what.

Do any of these things really matter. They should just shut it all down now, and when it is safe to do so, restart football afresh.

I don't want closed doors footie.

But the question has to be that how can social distancing prevent no crowd yet allow players to stand next to each other. It only takes 1 player to get the virus and its back to square one.

It should only restart when it can be done properly with a partisan home crowd just like the reverse fixture would have had.

Because of testing capability.

In fact, the inability to do tests is holding everything back for all sectors of the economy.

Ideally, you can test and keep 200 people safe, not 60,000 people.

Even if it means there won't be any/enough clubs exisiting to restart a league?

You cant just pause football for a year. It'd be a massacre. So are we accepting this will happen or is there a way around it?

Nobody wants closed doors football but that's the best option, in order to finish the season, which is why it's the option they've taken. If it hadn't been 75% finished they wouldn't even have considered it, in my opinion.

They reckon it takes 300 people to put a Prem game on.

You could test somebody 2 days before the game and they could get it the next day.

Like I said do it properly or not at all.

This season will not restart its null and void or current positions. Lawyers at the ready!

Is it though?

Is it going to stop 10s of thousands of fans of teams that won something off the streets celebrating?

I don’t.

The games aren’t going to be completed, I can’t believe some on here still think they are. With the Dutch league declaring what are we going to do - play this seasons prem games in October whilst the rest of Europe are in their next season - I don’t think so.

It’s all over bar the shouting.

Anyway it’s all a bit round in circles until we get a handle of the death rate which isn’t going to be for another month minimum.

Yes and when it doesn't restart I hope those on here who have been adamant that it will hold their hands up and accept they were flogging a dead horse.

I know apologies will be too much to ask for.

Insurance companies aren't going to offer cover whilst there's the slightest element of risk.

Well what option is better, in order to finish the season? I don't think waiting until stadiums can be filled, to finish 9 games, putting back next season even further is the best option.

As per the plans they have made to restart, with UEFA, the FA, the PL, the PFA and the clubs, as well as pushing the transfer window back and allowing contracts to be extended until season end, with TV allowed to show the games, behind closed doors, you'd be forgiven for thinking they plan on restarting the season. If in the unlikely event this wasn't the case and they were just tricking us, for fun as they're bored working from home, I'll hold my hands up.

Serie A plans to restart games also, with testing available in May.

With Spain and England a month behind them, you'd expect they would start in June. France also planning for June.

posted on 22/4/20

Spain is preparing a protocol for clubs’ return to training with three proposed dates for La Liga to restart: 28 May, 6 June and 28 June. Matches are expected to be played behind closed doors and European games would take place in parallel or at the end of the domestic season.

The plans were revealed on Tuesday by the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, who said the possibility of annulling the season was not being considered by Europe’s major leagues.

So of football can't be played you will see that as a victory on some internet forum where ypubdeserve an apology?

What a set up.

If the league resumes or is called, will you apologise?
