Then you postpone next season. Cancelling the whole season literally makes no sense and there hasn't been a valid argument for it. Just bitter man utd and spurs fans who can't accept the inevitable
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would spurs fans want it voided when one of the options is arsenal getting CL over us?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they thought it'd be canceled and we'd revert back to last season's standings, which would get CL for Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you say they are you talking about the stupid 3 as they are the only ones who would think that.

Contracts are a huge issue for clubs. To the point that FIFA have proposed them being extended.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pie in the sky. You can't make a player do that. Why is a player going to risk his next move and contract at his new club to play for a few weeks for a club he is about to leave?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
unless the whole of the world agrees on a calendar, they cannot logically just extend contracts of players arbitrarily.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or legally.

The angle you miss is that the player won't be taking any risk.

Any player whose contract lapses will not be able to appear for another club before the season is resumed and completed.

They will be able to extend their contract until the end of the season, whenever that may be.

If they don't then the other option is to stay at home collecting no wages and wait for the season to resume and finish at which point they shall then be able to appear for another club.

I imagine an overwhelming majority could agree to sign on until the season is finished. Even if you want to leave, it doesn't hurt to pick up the money before actually leaving.

Furthermore, everyone will be broke, players included and a ready made temporary contract will look delicious.

Hope my explanation makes sense.

Bales

Basing it on coefficient isn’t a great idea really. Especially if you’re going to use it as of the date that football stopped.

There’s no reasonable argument to be made that United should be able to qualify for the CL - as a result of points accrued in a voided season - than Leicester or Chelsea, for example.

The problem here is terminology perhaps.

Who says the season will be voided? Its possible but not guaranteed and no league has been voided yet. Belgium, Scotland and Holland have called, not voided their league.

The season will be called, not voided. Which means points gained at the time its called will be used.

However, I disagree with using coefficients. I feel its more unfair than calling the season. To be fair this could be totally pointless as I haven't read the thread.

What are Leicester and Wolves coefficients?

I quite agree, it's a nightmare. I think there's every chance that based on what the Belgian league did, and the Dutch league look set to do, that if the league's cancelled it won't necessarily be 'voided' in it's entirety, just ended early. The games did happen, after all. That doesn't mean we can award titles, but it also doesn't mean we have to ignore everything that happened up until March 13th. Who knows though, tbf.

Over 60k less the the top 6 teams

Member, if they were to use UEFA coefficients to decide European spots it indicates the season would have been voided, otherwise why even bother with it?

Bales, yeah that’d be a fairer way of doing than coefficients. All the alternatives to completing the season have huge holes in them, though.

Sorry do some folks think the league will be voided still

Even after all the powers in football say it won’t happen

Sadly today has opened the door to leagues being cancelled and not completed.

I think this will be the most likely outcome now, unless a vaccine is found sharpish.

Player contracts is the valid argument. Soon players are going to be out of contract. Some of them will leave their current club and sign new deals elsewhere and the integrity of the competitions has gone.

Clutching at straws

Great album by Marillion - Clutching at Straws is the fourth studio album by the British neo-progressive rock band Marillion, released in 1987. It was the last album with lead singer Fish, who left the band in 1988, and is a concept album.

It hasn't had a meaning for Spurs for the whole year but for the other teams fighting for something it has a lot of meaning. You'll just have to suck it up, when the pointless season for you restarts.

You keep talking about the powers in football, peks, like they’re homogeneous. UEFA have already reneged on earlier comments regarding completion of the season.

Each league, and government directives, are different around Europe. What one league may do may have no influence on another.

Germany, for example, have said they’ll continue games at the start of May. But the Dutch have come out with this today.

They've said they'll consider special cases.

I wouldn't call that reneging but your overall point is still valid.

I'll be amazed if that is how it pans out. The legalities involved are ridiculous. Some players will have already signed contracts for a new club next season.

I’m pretty sure they said that clubs would be denied entry into European competition if they cancelled their leagues, Mamba. Though I’m not 100% if that was an official stance.

What do you think should happen to the league?

Obviously there's no chance of a vaccine this year, that's practically impossible. Even if there were by some miracle it would be given to all of the health workers and vulnerable before anyone else.

Why do you think what the powers say is of any relevance?

They are hardly likely to admit this season is doomed when no restart date is available.

IMO this season has 2 possible outcomes null and void or play to a finish. Can anybody really not see what a half decent lawyer would do to the Prems top brass if the current positions were used?

Fack me it was only a few years ago that Utd were 8 points ahead with 6 games to go and we all know what happened. Theres alot of points left to play for.

Exactly. I can't even see us getting to the point where the season restarts behind closed doors for months and months. You've got players with asthma, players with family members that are high risk, players with pregnant partners. How are they going to be expected to mix with staff, hotel workers, ground staff etc.? One case within a squad and the team is locked down for 2 weeks. Then what?

I just don't see how this season can finish.

Ok but there’s been no talk of voiding

Like I said this opens the door to seasons being cancelled now.

They will try to restart the season but as soon as one player or member of staff tests positive then what

I think we’re done
