Ending the season

Fairness should not even come into it. You cannot claim anything until a season is completed.

Was it fair that say Newcastle blew a 10 point lead with barely a dozen games to play. Or that Spurs were denied CL football a few years ago, even though over the season they were the 4th best team.

You cannot just give titles or CL places on fairness, they have to be won. The same as relegation has to be done when all games are completed.

Until all those things happen, then no team can be given anything.

Ot would be crazy if Liverpool somehow miss out on the title. But I don't believe all this should be done just to ensure Liverpool win it. The impact of doing so is going to impact other teams in a negative way I. E relegation etc.
-----
The key word is fairness and that should be specific to individual teams. The only thing we can do that we know for sure is fair and won't hurt anyone at all is give Liverpool the title. After that it's about what is more fair, because its impossible to be completely fair.

I would say it would be a travesty if a team like like Leicester were to not be in the CL next season unless it's played out on the pitch and they get caught. If the season is canceled, it's more fair to give them the CL spot as they've done enough to earn it and you can't make an argument that any team below them deserves it more than them. Better to reward them than to reward a team that has failed all season and can hardly get a win at this level of football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I go back to my original point. I personally don't agree with giving anyone anything unless it was impossible for them to be caught. But I get your argument is what is the most fair.

In your response, you have given given an answer on probability without saying a percentage. You have said that the probability of Liverpool being caught is extremely slim so they should win the title. Then saying Leicester deserve CL over other sides because the season, upto now means they have performed well enough. The probability of them being caught is slim, albeit higher than Liverpool being caught.

My whole basis of argument is that probability should be 100% before it should be awarded. But I am repeating myself alot on that and I know you hate me doing that

The simple question should be, COULD Liverpool/Leicester/Leeds etc be caught. The simple answer to that is yes. Is it likely, in Liverpools case no. So where pd we draw the line on that. For me, only if its 100%.

Finish the season with fans in the stadium. Even if we have to wait 5 months. Otherwise, cancel it and start the new season whenever but allow the teams missing out this season to have a head start. These are the only solutions that are ultimately fair IMO

Well some countries have started awarding things without them being confirmed.

Well that is not right then. The most high profile league that has called it a day so far is the Dutch League, and they just null and voided it and had no title winners and no relegation. That was the correct decision.

You simply cannot give titles out or relegate clubs, if there is a still a mathematical chance of others teams either winning leagues or getting relegated. At the same time you cannot also just give out European places when their are still up to 27 points up for grabs.

UEFA have to do the right thing, and just call off next seasons European Competitions, and reset in 2021/22.

It wasn't voided as they are using current standings for entry into European competition next season. Plus the title couldn't be awarded as there were two teams level on points. There will be clubs challenging the decision.

They gave out European places though and one of the teams is even going to court. So how is it that they correct decision by your logic?

Also failed to give out a title because two years were tied. I'm sure you know this by now.

In leagues where the leader has a clear lead the title has been awarded.

Utrecht are 3 points off a Europa place with a game in hand and have said they will challenge the decision of the Dutch top brass.

This will surprise very few people as you can't pick and choose which parts of the table are null and void and which are to be final positions for an unfinished season.

Its gutless from the Dutch who should of had the balls to null and void the whole thing.

Nope, they should of completed the season end of story. You don’t void seasons when clubs have worked so hard to get where they are all season. You do it behind closed doors unfortunately. The only fair way of sorting this mess out, you finish the season.

The despertaion to get football back up and running is causing some folk to come up with ridiculously optimistic potential restart dates.

Better to null and void this season and cancel the 20/21 European competitions so everybody knows whats occurring.

As the journalists on Sunday Supp were saying this morning if football in this country tries to begin again when thousands of people a day are falling ill and hundreds dying it won't be a good look.

Life has to go on mate. You can’t keep people locked in for a whole year, the economy would collapse mate. You need to start the wheels moving slowly, so we have a country to come out to when this all ends. Football plays a huge part in British culture. It would boost the mental health of a lot of people. It would boost the economy to. I’m sorry mate, but we have to slowly ease back and start living our lives.

Re the Sup, they all rubbished the idea of the season being voided.

I would be extremely surprised if any professional top league in Europe is voided.

Many will be cancelled like Belgium and Holland however not voided.

As football journalists they not surprisingly said they want it finished but they were all at great pains to sound compassionate and emphasised that it only takes 1 player to test positive after a game and the whole things facked.

All in all I thought their messages were mixed and contradictory but they had it about right regarding starting again too soon.

I just hope they come out with a decision soon so we can all stop this nonsense about what will or won't happen and just with with it.

Overall scheme of things, it's relatively low on my priorities.

Meant to be moving house on 1st July but all this is causing a major delay and I'm worried it may mean by buyer has to pull out.

Also meant to be going to Florida on 28th July. Pretty much sure that isn't going ahead.

Both are huge moments for my family but likely to end up not going ahead. Can't moan as everyone is in the same position. What I can't do is ask them to work our averages etc just to let my holiday and move go ahead

Yep, I was meant to be getting married in Italy next month with 44 of my friends and family joining us. Utterly depressing all this bulls**. Anyway, it’s been postponed now to later on in the year, so hopefully by then things will slowly be easing back and we can enjoy our moment.

I’ve literally just bought a flat and I’m kicking myself about how I was gonna pay the mortgage since I’m meant to be renting it out to tenants. I luckily found a couple who paid two months upfront, I’m hoping by June some of us will be back to work again.

Worrying times. Got a mate who has bought a house for the exact same reason. He had to pay a month without tennants but luckily has it sorted now.

Such volatile times at the moment. We need some normality back soon because the consequences of carrying on like this are not worth thinking about.

It wouldn’t surprise me if no team was relegated, and the teams in automatic promotion spots go up.

Well that is if the season doesn’t finish.
