Do you think PSG are not a giant club currently? In the Modern day and age I'm asking, not in the 1980s where most Ja606 users seem to live for some reason judging by this article.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're saying two different things though.
When I think of the biggest clubs in England, I think of the clubs that have a fan base, a history etc. I think its a very subjective view is how you define who the biggest clubs are, but I think defining a "big club" and a "powerful club" are two different things really.
I wouldn't say PSG are a giant club by tradition no. I'd say they are powerful, rightly so, but not giant. Again, that's by my own definition of a big club.
You put Forest and Leeds in the PL and you ask any player, they'd rather play for either of them that Burnley I'd estimate.
---------------
but they're not in the PL. If you ask any player whether they'd rather play for Burnley or Leeds or Nottingham forest, they'd choose Burnley because they'd rather play in the top division than the second division. Proving my point that Burnley are bigger currently.
you're the one who's confusing history and your own personal sense of nostalgia with any tangible notion of size.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're not. Power and size go hand in hand. a Big club can't be stuck in the second division. A small club can't be dominating the top division.
It's not really nostalgia because I hate Leeds, but they are a big club, bigger than Burnley. Again, going off what I'd say and I think most others would say defines a club as "big", Leeds, Forest and Villa all come before Burnley in my book.
If Crawley Town were to gain 3 successive promotions to the Premier League, does that make them a bigger club than any of the names mentioned above?
Like I said, you're the one who is confused is between bigger and better.
Forest aren’t a big club.
So you rank your biggest clubs off current performance is that what you're saying.
Would clubs such as Man City and PSG have the same pulling power they did 15 years ago? No. They'd be at the bottom/relegated from their respective divisions. If you took the money away from Liverpool, United, Arsenal etc, would they get relegated and would they still have the pulling power? Yes I believe they would. More so than City and PSG.

Size of fan base
History
Historical/total successes (Trophies, average league position etc)
Current success (last 5-10 years say)
Financial power of the club
Financial value of the club
I think these are fair & broad criteria for measuring a “big club”. There might be other broad criteria to be added but I think this is a very fair list.
When you assess these fairly, there is no way Manchester City are top. In the future, maybe, but not now.
Yes I’m a United fan but I think it’s fair to put United just above Liverpool. City need to win in Europe to move up the ladder in my opinion.
*thought
*Busby, sorry Sir Matt
That’s true, Forza. But Wahl does raise a fair point about current status.
If you asked most people around the world to name the biggest clubs in England Chelsea and City would be two names mentioned. Nottingham Forest and Leeds wouldn’t.

I'm 22 years old. I don't care whether nottingham forest won a champions league 50 years ago. I don't care how many league titles Liverpool won in the 1980s. What I care about is which team in England currently is the most impressive and powerful.
And that's Manchester City, like it or not. It used to be Manchester United, but not anymore.

and you've just lost because by your arguments, right now, as the current European Super World Club champions, Liverpool are far bigger than some tinpot man city team that can't win anything outside of their own country.
Napoli are tiny. Similar size to SPAL or Parma

Again though, I think just looking at the current level of a club is too linear to define these clubs as being big. I reckon a lot of fans across the world would know who Leeds are to be fair.
I think it would also be fair to say that it would be acceptable to look at the best times that a club has ever performed. So in Leeds' case it would be the 70's and the Don Revie era, which I think is more successful than Man City's best in my opinion.
It’s not, though. City have won many more trophies. And set numerous English records in that time. Leeds aren’t that well known out of England either. Which isn’t surprising when you spend so much time out of the top division.

And go the extra mile with your thumb and spelling it Leicester
Forza, yeah for sure. Current status is an interesting thing, to be fair. How long does one need to br at the top before it’s considered above historically more successful, or renowned, teams.
France is a good one to look at. PSG aren’t historically the most successful team there. But they’re two titles away from having the most. And most consider them the biggest team in France now.
