Rioting, looting, burning, and destroying your communities ain’t the answer.
———
No one is saying it’s the answer
People are saying that it’s the only logical reaction people are having after centuries of abuse and misjustice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of curiosity would the RAs response in Northern Ireland have been the logical reaction?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard to say. Bombing innocent people - of course not but rioting and protesting I could understand. But they are different situations tbf so would require a different debate I think

I’ve got dem and rep mates in different states who all agree this reaction is madness. That’s whites, blacks, and Hispanics.

How is it madness? Madness is seeing a cop execute a suspect on camera in full view of everyone and not even looking concerned. And then realising this thing goes on many many times over and plenty of cops actually get away with it.
Baltimore has many worse problems than those riots. There's a lot of 'boarding up' in Baltimore, even without the riots.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes Neo. I know this. It doesn’t alter the point I made about the damage the riots did.
You know how effed up Baltimore is when the Mayor recently asked people to stop shooting each other because they were taking up hospital beds for Covid patients.

That’s the thing. No sensible person here is saying that looting and rioting is the right thing to do. Only that it’s a logical reaction. None of us have the answer to this huge and multi layered problem but when people say ‘rioting and looting won’t change anything’ they appear to be coming at the issue without understanding that when something as evil as this happens as what happened to George Floyd, what do people expect?
Rather than blame the rioters and looters for doing what they’re doing, people need to spend 100% of their energy in debates like this pointing fingers at the system which provokes these things rather than the people pushed into rioting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well said Robb.
If you ever have a look at the musings of historical legal scholars over the centuries, you find that they imagined stuff like this happening and there is a whole body of jurisprudence on this issue.
It comes down to the law. The purpose of law is to maintain order, peace and freedom. What would happen if there was no law? Chaos would ensue. What makes people follow the law? It's because of certainty of the law. Justice has to not only be applied properly, it must also be seen to be applied properly and people have confidence that it works. Take that away and you get chaos for obvious reasons.
This is then further compartmentalised so that if any particular domain is not regulated by law, or is regulated by repugnant or uncertain laws/system, then chaos swiftly follows within that specific domain, every single time.
Even in business, if financial institutions don't follow the law, or of the law is bad then that how we end up chaos in the form of a global financial crisis. This concept applies in every aspect of life.
For decades they have resisted the necessary reforms. The law or system is non existent or uncertain in some cases, repugnant in all cases and chaos has swiftly ensued. People don't have confidence that what needs to happen will happen.

I get that - I was saying that I would sympathise with anyone in those circumstances. But I would have to draw a line with the murder of innocent people. I would absolutely understand if they got to the level of what is happening in the US however

Rioting, looting, burning, and destroying your communities ain’t the answer.
———
No one is saying it’s the answer
People are saying that it’s the only logical reaction people are having after centuries of abuse and misjustice.

Out of curiosity would the RAs response in Northern Ireland have been the logical reaction?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hard to say. Bombing innocent people - of course not but rioting and protesting I could understand. But they are different situations tbf so would require a different debate I think
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that different Robb
We also suffered centuries of abuse and misjustice
Take the famine for example

I really want to discuss agitators and the potential consequnces. I am hesistant to flood a football forum with political posts and would ordinarily not when football is on.
Let me know if you feel strongly feel either way about me creating a thread on the agitators or people will simply discuss it here if they want to.
