Why do we want the United kingdoms to become the individual kingdoms, like they were a thousand years ago?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Self determination, I suspect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In a nutshell, yes. Many, many reasons for it though.

Thanks for clearing that up. I agree that not everyone wants to see the breakup of the UK. In fact the majority don’t, mainly because England has the larger population) but there is a growing support for it in Scotland (I believe) and particularly in Wales.

Scotland and Wales could make a new Union. ‘Scales’ or ‘Waltland’..national flag could be a guy in a dress holding a sword, bumming a sheep?
Anyway, clocking off work now, and heading home through the Evo Triangle. Nice drive home.

I’m just being silly. I think you have a point and it’s probably inevitable that either Wales or Scotland or both will leave at some stage in the next decade. On the balance it’s what I think the people there want, Scotland only narrowly decided to stay last time I believe. Given the last few years and the tories, the appetite I would imagine would be higher now.

Afternoon Diafol.
I wonder if the Queen passing will weaken the Union in any way. Could it somewhat hasten the independence of Scotland, and more importantly to me, Wales?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a tough one really. On hand hand it could but, on the flip side, the overt nationalism we'll see over the next few weeks could tip it the other way. One thing is clear to me though. How the Indy movements deal with the Queen's death will be interesting. It'll need to be respectful, not hypocritical though, because if it's not showing respect they could lose those 'not sure' people and those are the people that need to be won over.
For me it isn't about leaving UK/England. It's about making decisions for us in our own country. It's very telling IMO that there's no English parliament.
To add I do think there will be an upturn in the Scottish Indy polls for 'Yes' if and when the referendum there is called.

Not yet. It's polling at around 30% at the moment. However, at the same stage for when Scotland went for Indy they were polling much lower. It's only when there was a concerted effort that they got up to the 40% mark.
I think Scotland would vote to leave next time. For us here I don't think it would happen until the older people who have moved here to live have passed away. The county I live in, for example, has quite a high average age due to people moving to cheaper houses to live by the sea. Where I live it's Tory which I think is pretty amazing considering being Welsh and Tory doesn't go together really!
Surprised I thought Wales would be higher than 30%. So when you say older people do you mean English folks who moved there to retire with cheaper housing and beautiful countryside? Didn’t realise there’d be that many.

That's what it's polling at currently. It may not be telling the whole story though. We also have a large border with England and many families will be a mix of Welsh/English so may consider themselves more British than any of the individual countries. Could also be a bit of Stockholm Syndrome as well. I think the best chance for here is in a generation as it is polling much higher in the youths.
We should play this all day every day here I think!
