Man City v Wolves Matchday LIVE

So with the window closing tomorrow I guess that's it until the summer. Certainly no-one can argue that we have not been pro active but with a keeper, a CB, a forward and 3 midfielders it seems that we still have the problem of the elephant in the room.

I reckon we score 25 goals from here on out.

Looks like it’s down to Cunha and Sarabia to find us some goals. Sarabia should add some quality to the final third, but can Cunha become the man to get on the end of things. Not scored many for Athletico Madrid but then few players do under Simeone’s management. But the fact he scored 21 in 24 games for Brazil U23s suggests there is a striker in there

Hope you are right Cinci, we will need them.
We must also make sure the opposition don’t score more.

Forest hope to sign another centre back tomorrow. They are linked with Felipe from Athletico who we were after. Their alternative is Romain Saiss

Forest are signing Shelvey aren't they? Can't see Saiss going there if that's the case.

Hope you're right but I just don't see it. Going from 0.6 goals per game to 1.4? The 6 new signings have managed 4 goals between them this season.

I have felt all along that our goalscoring issue was more down to set up than players just not capable of scoring.

I think it's partly due to set up but a large part of it is mentality and lack of confidence, it feels like there's a simple lack of desire to take a chance even when it's the simplest thing to do, players would rather pass it off to someone else rather than risk the ridicule.

Don’t think we’ve been missing that many chances, more a case of players not getting into scoring positions. Costa not the player he was and Jimenez has forgotten how to play as a centre forward. Time and again we get into good positions then there’s nobody on a scoring position to play the final pass to. We have to hope Cunha and Sarabia show an ability to get on the end of things. I’d certainly be more hopeful of Lopetegui finding the answers than I would Bruno or Davies

When you actually read the previous post properly you can see that oldgold makes a very good point. We aren't missing that many chances, the problem is that there seems to evidently be a real lack of desire to actually take them.

Time and again we see players "pass it off to someone else", or fail to make the effort to get on the end of good passages of play as we transition through the lines.

In my opinion, if our players are failing to get into scoring positions when there is an opportunity to do so, then that is a missed chance to score.

The issue remains though that when we commit players forward we leave ourselves wide open at the back exposing our defensive frailties, as evidenced at home to Brighton when they looked like they had an extra man on the pitch when they attacked our penalty area.

Can see both arguments. The difference is, in one, the team is missing chances that are being created by not having players getting into the right position, rather than in the other, individual players are getting in the right position and then missing the chances being created.

The end result of both is the same: no goals.

I just think we create very little. Our forwards were always very static around the final third. No one really tries to make anything happen, so we end up getting around the penalty area and then going backwards. We only really had Podence who tries to make something happen in those positions.

This is backed up by out XG stats. As of boxing day, we were second bottom for expected goals (only Bournemouth below us). The quality of chances we are creating on leads to an XG over the season of 30 goals. I don't think it is possible to have a 20 goal a season striker, with that low quality chance creation and it probably shows why Ings preferred a move elsewhere.

Hopefully now with the introduction of Sarabia and Cunha, we get that movement in the final third and people trying to create something with a bit more intensity. If we get that, I think we will start scoring more goals.

Yerson Mosquera off on loan to FC Cincinnati

Matt Doherty off to Atletico Madrid. Good luck Matt, under-appreciated at Spurs.

Wolves saying it is unlikely but not impossible they will make any signings today. Some young players will be leaving the club on loan deals though. I’d have thought Hodge, Campbell and Lembikisa would be really good signings for championship clubs

Hasn't Chem Campbell already gone to Wycombe?

I don't think he was. I think he has been fairly poor for them. He is good in a system set up for him, but there was a reason he couldn't get into put Championship team most of the time prior to Nuno changing our play.

Atletico is a strange one for him. They predominantly play a back 4. Not sure he would be going there if Mendes wasn't his agent.

Doherty is a decent wing back but not a great full back. Not the only one at our club you could say that about in recent years
