I say again. Anywhere else on the park and it’s a free kick.

No?

There has to be something wrong with the game when every commentator and pundit agree that penalty should never have been given
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When McCoist saw it again he said he’d be stunned if it wasn’t given
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really, just going by the bbc online

That’s where I get all my BBC.

So you are happy for players to go in with studs up then? Fair enough

Not really. It’s a challenge that is deemed dangerous as once your leg is outstretched with studs towards an opponent you are out of control with anything that happens next. It’s a free kick, or in this case a penalty.

As given by a world class referee.

And yes I know what’s coming next about him.

Why they let him referee this is beyond me. He was always on a hiding to nothing. Ridiculous decision.

Nah. That’s fair enough

In any event as regards the ref, it was the VAR panel who flagged it up

Indeed, once VAR flag it up, the ref is almost obliged to agree, plus he gets to see a replay unavailable to him in real time

Have to completely and utterly disagree with anyone that says the pen should be given, for two reasons

Firstly.... Armstrong penalty shout for Scotland, not given with the reason being that Armstrong slowing down and positioning his leg in front of the defenders was "the attacker initiating contact"....but Kane volleying the ball and catching the defender on his follow through, who is only.trting to block the shot, thats mot seen as the attacker initiating contact....complete and utter baws

Secondly.....this argument that if that happens anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul...yes I would agree if it was a pass....but surely to god defenders should be able to raise their foot and try to block a shot, without the worry of being penalised with a yellow card AND a penalty if the attacker follows through onto them

Games a bloody farce

I like this rule about only captains allowed to talk to the ref.

What?

The Armstrong decision has no bearing on this at all. Ridiculous to think that one decision in an entirely different game must mean something in another.

Your second point is quite ridiculous. Whether it’s a pass or a shot or fwcking anything else, it doesn’t matter. Studs were raised from an outstretched leg towards an incoming opponent. You catch him and it’s a foul, whether you meant it or not.

Sheesh

I'm struggling to understand how an attacker slowing down and getting hit from behind can be seen as him initiating contact, but an attacker following through and kicking a defenders boot can't be seen as that

Secondly.....Defenders have to be able to defend, the defender failed to block the shot, Kane got his shot away without being fouled, and Dumfries movement isnt towards Kanes body or legs, it was towards the ball, and only made contact with Kanes outstretched boot which was just as high as his...and only reason he's leading with his studs is due to his body position and where the ball is in relation to him

So we are basically saying that if a defender can only make a block with his studs up, he shouldn't make one at all coz if he catches the attacker, it's a foul...for me that's ridiculous and ruining the game, defenders have to be able to defend

posted on 10/7/24

You can defend.

Just within the laws of the game is the criteria.

Look, not going to argue about it any more. There are many who agree with you; except the VAR panel and the referee of course

Van Dyck gets a yellow for complaining. No var review for incorrect decision in the box ?
