Yes but what you are probing for is an admission that Truss' budget was worse so that you can cancel any criticism of Reeve's budget.

I will gladly admit Truss' budget was a disaster, although i liked the principle of what she was trying to achieve, which was 'market beating' growth. But it would have been a huge speculation that if failed could have destroyed us, and so the markets were spooked.

The Reeve's budget is also a bit of a gamble. Nearly all their fiscal eggs are in the same growth basket and their plans of growth are long term. So their goal and the clear focus of this budget is to turn things around by the time we come to vote again, by which point all the pain will have been forgotten.

The trouble is that the pain some feeling now will probably not be forgotten, and they have already made the Tory's next election campaign headline for them.

With a lack of any measures to stimulate growth now, and in fact many measures that will have the opposite effect, they may well miss out on growth in the short term that will help them fund their future spending plans (which are very modest in any event).
