i'm not aware of anything that couldn't be put under another genre.
it's just an old term for MOBO IMO.

I mean even Imagine - John Lennon id consider as a Pop song. Occasionally voted the best song ever made but it's such a regularly played song even today that I'd say it's a Pop song

Id never call Staiway to Heaven a pop song either, But it is generally regarded as the 'best and most requested FM radio played song in the World ever, although its never been released as a single or been in the pop charts.
