I’ve dropped his name into the discussion as an example of someone with extremist intolerant views who doesn’t appear to have any affiliation with any religious organisation. If he did it would be widely reported

I dont need to publically say what I believe...my voice carries no weight anyway...doesn't make It untrue though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No - you haven’t got the balls to publicly state what you believe. That’s why you do it on here anonymously.- let’s get it right
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This forum is public

And you’re posting anonymously on it. It’s incredibly brave what you’re doing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you are an ashamed christian...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And I think you’re a massive coward 👍 if you’re not then by all means state your name or even go and tweet your thoughts on Islam.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you're using fear of reprisal to justify your stance?
Funny how it's only religious people that do this. Never atheists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What stance? I’m not a member of any church. I’m simply saying that people who post hate speech against religion would usually never dare to say it openly. They hide behind anonymity.
Ultimately I believe hating on any section of society is wrong. The comments I’ve seen on here such as the suggestion that the world would be a better place if religious people were ‘eliminated’ are shocking
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not religious people, but eliminate religion and see how the World would be then.Would love there to be a World free of religion and those who make a fortune out of conning the gullible and the weak

I have read about how people where exploited by clever people who used the word and will of their deities Centuries ago when the general populace knew no better.People starved as they had to pay the church a tithe(10% of their income no matter what) Whilst the church got rich.Today I see no difference as to what happened centuries ago, people are still exploited, but now for different means.

people would just find other ways and reason to manipulate and screw each other over.
the problem is the power structure that's been created around religion that allows people to influence others in nefarious ways. men interpreted certain religions as a means to control women.
same as hollywood, twisted individuals thrive in that enivronment too.

Yes, that's because it has been brainwashed into them over generations. Video games have only been around like 40 years. Also made up fairytale religious crap was prevalent from the very top for centuries before people discovered science and education became a thing. If someone came along nowadays and told you that nonsense, you'd say they should be sectioned. Just because things have been a certain way for hundreds of years, does not mean that it is a reasonable and sensible way to be.
Just because religion has been around for thousands of years now, does not give it any sort of credibility in a modern and educated society.
Being in a majority does not mean anything.

Well no. 10 people thinking that a disease can be treated by injecting bleach because someone brainwashed them into thinking that, doesn't mean that's more correct than a doctor calling you a facking moron for thinking that.
No offence, but your brainwashing made up nonsense should have zero impact on policies in countries, zero impact on the decisions other people make in their lives. But you seem to think a fairytale book written thousands of years ago should dictate normal people's lives.

Do I? I’ve said repeatedly I’m not religious - I know people who are of course and I have respect for other people’s democratic right to believe what they want. I don’t want the UK to be a country that doesn’t tolerate religious freedoms because then what next? It’s a slippery slope and that’s the basis of my argument. I find the whole religion bashing pretty tiresome and lazy to be honest - like it’s responsible for every single evil in the world when it isn’t
The point you seem to be missing about the majority mattering is because religion is
already tied up with politics in many countries across the world.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But that’s not what all religion is about. You’ve taken an example of some of the very worst aspects of organised religion and applied it across the whole spectrum
This is how intolerance breeds and grows. People become convinced that a certain section of society is responsible for all the world’s problems. It’s a very slippery slope
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have read about how people where exploited by clever people who used the word and will of their deities Centuries ago when the general populace knew no better.People starved as they had to pay the church a tithe(10% of their income no matter what) Whilst the church got rich.Today I see no difference as to what happened centuries ago, people are still exploited, but now for different means.
As someone said earlier, religion is a cancer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sigh. Not all religious people are exploited 😂

Or they haven’t realised it yet?

See all the hitler and Stalin bollix too. Religious people will tell you god is omni - all seeing, all knowing, all doing. His creation - very last bit. So whether the bad guys were doing it under the guise of religion or not the mantra is god did it for a reason and the bad guys are just ignorant of that ‘fact’.
Same goes for anyone hating on here. All god, mate.

Why is religious nonsense newsworthy anyway? It's like a story on the lead Dungeons and Dragons player. It's exactly the same thing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think there’s 5.8 billion Dungeons and Dragons players to be fair. That’s the estimated number of religious believer across the world. Roughly 84% of the worlds population as of 2010
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, that's because it has been brainwashed into them over generations.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It kind of does. If you think religion is a cancer and you want to see the end of it then youve got to wait for 84% of the population to catch up
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you think some made up nonsense book SHOULD dictate policy across the world? I can't put my gentleman's sausage in another man's bottom because some guy thousands of years ago thought it was wrong? Should The Beano dictate policy in a thousand year's time? No one would care if people believed their religious nonsense if it didn't actually effect people's lives. You are completely free to believe what you want.

Ultimately the point I’m making is that meeting intolerance with more intolerance never results in a good outcome. Eg - building up a hatred towards religion and people practicing religion is a slippery slope

It's not a hatred. It's more like "why the fack does this nonsense have such an impact on normal people's lives nowadays?". Most reasonable people are not intolerant of people's religious views, but rather question why this utter crap still has such a say in the modern world.
Do you agree that people are free to believe the nonsense, but it should have zero impact on other people?

people would just find other ways and reason to manipulate and screw each other over.
the problem is the power structure that's been created around religion that allows people to influence others in nefarious ways. men interpreted certain religions as a means to control women.
same as hollywood, twisted individuals thrive in that enivronment too.

I dont need to publically say what I believe...my voice carries no weight anyway...doesn't make It untrue though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No - you haven’t got the balls to publicly state what you believe. That’s why you do it on here anonymously.- let’s get it right
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This forum is public
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And you’re posting anonymously on it. It’s incredibly brave what you’re doing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you are an ashamed christian...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And I think you’re a massive coward 👍 if you’re not then by all means state your name or even go and tweet your thoughts on Islam.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you're using fear of reprisal to justify your stance?
Funny how it's only religious people that do this. Never atheists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What stance? I’m not a member of any church. I’m simply saying that people who post hate speech against religion would usually never dare to say it openly. They hide behind anonymity.
Ultimately I believe hating on any section of society is wrong. The comments I’ve seen on here such as the suggestion that the world would be a better place if religious people were ‘eliminated’ are shocking
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not religious people, but eliminate religion and see how the World would be then.Would love there to be a World free of religion and those who make a fortune out of conning the gullible and the weak
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Says the religious person who's priest (or any other exploiter) told him that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
😂😂😂😂 So because I’m arguing against intolerance and religious hate speech, I’ve been exploited?
Like I’ve said - I’m not a member of any church. I just don’t accept hatred against any section of society. The amount of anger and bitterness people have today is a far bigger threat than any religion
