There are a lot of nasty and spiteful people on here, that I will say.

Anyway, for all the people who want an end to religion, or Christianity, what will you be doing during December ?

I take it you will not be having a jolly-up for Christmas then ?

You wont be buying gifts for loved ones ?

Bunch of hypocrites.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
personally I hate Christmas & Easter...once upon a time it meant a holiday from work...now it's just shat in shops & on the telly for two months, & making those that can't afford it pay for toys & chocolate their kids don't need

----------------------------------------------------------------------
mind you Halloween is just as bad these days...we have the Americans to thank for that shat

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

Christmas may have began as a religious celebration but it sure as shat isn't viewed that way by many now so why are we pretending it is?

We’re not. We’re just saying without religion you’d have no Christmas. It wouldn’t exist.

It’s also an.event atheists for eg have continued to embrace because they like it so much. Sure they’ve dispensed with the meaning and origins - but they don’t want to stop doing it. That’s basically taking the bits you like out of religion and getting rid of the stuff you don’t

Basically in a round about way - everyone’s a bit of hypocrite

I'd probably rather give up receiving a Dairy Milk in a sock once a year to let a few million Jews live in the 1940s.

You are essentially saying, "Yes, millions and millions of people have been murdered because of religion, but you are forgetting that you get some carboard tasting chocolate coins once a year because of religion, I don't see you complaining about that"

That's your argument.

No, and how on earth did you come around to me justifying the holocaust, honestly, some people will go to really low levels to try and prove a point.

What the n@zi regime did to the Jews was an abomination.

Accusing me of what you have is a real low point, please be better.

All I am saying is, Christmas still means a lot more to a lot of people.

We are saying religion caused major atrocities and deaths over hundreds of years. And you are saying "Yeah but you get christmas and you don't complain about that".

That is what you have been saying. And calling us hypocrites for enjoying a family day once a year where we drink Bucks Fizz. We cannot do that whilst also condemning the atrocities religion has caused over the years?

No one here speaking in defence of organised religion? So let me weigh in then....
Pox on birching I say, what we need is a good old school crucifixion!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Crusifixion...?

Err no... Pilate said i hadn't done anything wrong and i was free to go...

Oh right...well off you go then...

Naa only kidding I'm up for crusifixion

Oh ok..one cross each first door on the right
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Crustifiction it is!
Pedo priests is one thing, but what about the lingering stench of roasted flesh from the Inquisition to the witch burnings, sordid entertainment for the rabble indeed.

Genuine question and not at the WUM but can any of the Christians explain how the Christians who believe that the Earth is only 6000yrs old and there were no dinosaurs? (I get it's not all Christians btw)

This discourse today has brought that to my memory and I honestly just wonder how they explain it?

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

Also people who don't believe that you die when you die are a bit dangerous if they then force that on to you. It would make killing me more acceptable to them because they think I wouldn't actually die. It also downplays the significance of death.

"they're not dead, they've just gone to a better place". No Sandra you killed them with your car. They're dead forever Sandra. You shouldn't have been texting whilst driving.

I am not saying that though. Please read through all my comments, I have engaged with the OP.

People who have misused their authority in religion need to be made to answer for it, and that goes for everything all the corrupt stuff and starting wars in the name of religion.

What I am saying, is the people on here who want nothing to do with religion are fine to do so, but do not be a hypocrite and celebrate religious holidays and then try and justify it by saying that said holidays have lost all religious meaning, because guess what ? They haven't.

Usually dealt with with the "works in mysterious ways" idiom.... or : "How can we mere humans quantify the works of the almighty?"
Besides if one gets over obsessive about any book isn't that called "being boke" ?

Which is fine. I have no arguments over that. If that is what people see it as, then thats their thing.

But to totally dismiss religion as the spawn of everything that is bad in life is also wrong.

If people are against religion, then do not have Wispa golds and play monopoly during the festive period, as without religion, there would not be a festive period.

posted 1 week, 2 days ago

These cases are more examples of people abusing their position to exert power or gain more control. It's not really about religion. Just like other areas such as entertainment, sport and above all else, politics.

I see atheism is alive and kicking on this thread. It's a religion itself and dangerously full of dense people.

I can still remember that chilly evening about 125 thousand years ago when the "the old shaman" came into the cave and told us , by guttural grunting, "I have something to show you all" , and twirling a twig on lump of rock produced fire.
That was a sensational performance , and it was decided by all to throw a festive party .
It made a huge difference I can tell you when we all experienced what you modern folk call "a hot meal".
The clan doubled in size very soon after that.
The shaman's meat portion was increased by general consent ...for he had learned the art from the spirits.

I believe God created everything, I also believe in evolution.

But God is the ultimate creator. Billions of years ago.
