Disgraceful that people are passing judgement on a situation and person that they cannot know much about.
RIP Gary Speed!
I hope for the sake of humanity it isnt true either (The sun's witch hunt). It probabaly isn't true, But when the 'newspapers' in this country throw all kind of ethics out the window for a good story, you can't rule it out. It is quite sickening, I mean they got a pair o knokers on the opening page of every issue!

This is an article which doesn't belong on a sports site. This is a very serious topic and shouldn't be talked about, especially online where people leave their morals behind."
Oh yes, great attitude is that, pal. Keep it under wraps and don't discuss it because football fans and many of the young men that contribute to this site, and might have had similar thoughts to this poor guy just wouldn't understand.

Firstly, I'm not your pal. Secondly, you know absolutely nothing about the man or what he went through and until you or anybody else does, then you are only speculating and speculating on a death is not something you should do on a sports forum.
Hi this is my first post, but felt after reading the other posts here that i had to make a comment.
I, as a young boy, lost my mother to suicide. I was the one who came home from school and discovered her.
I can understand the comment made by the OP, as unless you have experienced this kind of thing first hand you could never understand what goes through a persons mind.
I felt abandoned, hurt, angry and obviously devestatingly crushed. It's not the kind of thing you ever get over, there isn't a day that i don't think of her, and it was thirty years ago, but it does get easier and you only ever remember them in a good way.
For me it really hit home in two ways, one as i have already explained and the other that he was only a year younger than myself.
Events like this make you appreciate even more what you have, I myself have two fantastic children and a wonderfull wife, everything else, work, etc. is secondary, family is number one.
My thoughts and sympathy go out to his wife and children. RIP Gary Speed.
Suicide is always a selfish act but we don't know what drove him to do it. It's a really sad story and the ones left behind deserve all our sympathy.
I feel sorry for Gary Speed. Taking your own life, particulary by hanging, can't be an easy thing to contemplate. But I feel more sorry for his family who will probably never know what drove him to do it.

Why are you trying to ruin what was a decent debate. Many people were affected by what happenmed yesterday and may want to discuss it. It personally hit me hard. I was in shock for the whole day. As long as this debate doesn't get nasty or out of hand then I don't see why it can't be discussed
Masque
I very brave and moving first post. Perfectly put.

I didn't ruin anything, you have all did a good job of that on your own speculating on something you know nothing about. I simply tried to help you understand that behaviour is wrong. Up to you whether you want to take that advice or not.

I am saddened by your comment and happy that you appreciate life. RIP Gary Speed.

I know mate we really will have hit an all time low if this is true... and i mean all of us cos if we do not stand up and boycott these papers/websites etc it will keep happening.
best thing ive heard from the inquiry is that there is a difference between 'public interest' and what the public is intersted in!! sums it up for me really.
Agree with the op on this. I think it's cowardly. Rather than pay tribute to him, how about we pay tribute to those he left behind?!
I just feel for people who get to the point where they feel this is the only option. No matter how bad things get, and no matter how lonely you think you are, there will always be someone there to help. It might not be a friend, or family member, but there are people out there that can offer you help in ways you thought were never available.

That last para has so much truth in it and I have seen some very uplifting comments to go with the very sad news from yesterday. Being open about these issues can be very empowering.
Great to hear you came through it and your on the up.
Anfield RAP, thank you for sharing that very personal account.
I am just amazed that people wouold come on here and be critical of a man and situation they know nothing about and clearly have not experienced a situation of feeling hopeless and helpless. By all accounts, Gary Speed was a wonderful, generous and humble man and he must have gone thorugh considerable anguish and pain to do what he did. Unfortunately, he has left others who have to deal with his actions but it is not for the rest of us to be judgemental about it.
My deepest sympathies and empathy to his family.
RIP Gary Speed

IF.... this is actually down to journalistic intrusion then I fear for the newspaper industry and all those who work in it. With all what is going on atm they will get absolutely slaughtered.
Yeah Anfield Rap. Glad to hear you're in a better space now in your life. Hopefully you're never put in a situation like that again
Stil can't get my head around Gary Speed. Its saddening that he felt he could turn to no one and he felt this was the only option.
RAP...Good for you mate and i hope these days are better for you
you are right this should not be stigmatised, tis is an illness. people need to remember that whatever their opinion.

Agreed. I didn't really hold Max Mosley in a very high regard, due to the stories printed about him last year. But having watching him give evidence at the enquiry, and seeing just how bad all those lies affected him and him family, my opinion changed instantly!
Something needs to change, and fast.
Ian Hislop made a good point on ‘Have I Got News For You’ the other night. That being, laws are already in place to stop all these lies and particularly the harassment. But the industry, and police have no interest in adhering to, or enforcing them.
