Admin1 (U1) For JA606 it important for us to leverage the social graph and there is no requirement to link their JA accounts to face-book accounts . But exposing our content on these channels is important.
-----------------------
Fair enough. I just know that personally i have no intention of sharing my forum posts with all my friends (keyboard warrior and all that)
This website does look pretty boring to be honest.
And you never keep the one page up to date.
Banners Ads would be our least preferred form of making money from the forum. The site has always been a commercial entity and we have turned away a few fairly large companies who had Ad proposals that we felt would damage user experience. Casinos and the like!

Well I`ve just sent a comment to the BBC stating my displeasure with the changes to the Sports web page. I find the yellow colour causes me actual discomfort looking at it. I'm not against progress, but what the heck was wrong with the old site?
-------------------
boring. Not modern/interactive.
Especially with html 5 and other advancements coming through websites need to change with the times to stop themselves falling behind
Leverage the social graph???
So your day job is "manager" then.
The colouring and the way it looks like it has been broken down and placed in a few different lines, are the main cause for concern for me. It is uncomfortable and straining on the eyes aswell as being a neon light flashing and shouting, hey look at me, I'm on your employee's computer screen and therefore he/she is not working!

You wouldn't be classed as a heavy user of JA606 in terms of content creation. We have guys with 10,000+ comments who are very socially connected in terms of twitter. Those members, more specifically their social graph, is of key importance to JA.

Yeh that's a fair point. Definitely a good way of dragging in some new users and/ or keeping them interested and posted.
Lol Addy. That comment kinda says, your keys members social network is more important to you than the users themselves.
That's hardly 'community' spirit is it?
Certainly a Facebook and Twitter link would be good for me. I also believe it would entice a few of my friends and colleagues here and then their friends and colleagues and so on. A good move and in line with other sites.

p.s. Admin1 - how do I knwo how many posts I have ever made on here?
or is this data you keep to hold us to ransom at any given point in time?

Yeh In was interested in that. maybe we could get a 'stat' feature, or, like some other sites, info on how important a user is (e.g. n00b -> occasional poster -> wumble)?
This site is for adults Da Bomb. We don't need those things.

No it certainly isn't, from a cold strategic view of the site which is the context of my point.

Good to hear re banner ads, and thanks for the honest answer, but must admit I didnt realise re your comment above, so I obviously misunderstood the intentions of the site.
I thought the primary goal was to simply keep the 606 community running rather than profit, and this was why the BBC allowed you to copy the exact look & feel including smilies etc. However as I said earlier I appreciate it shouldn't be a charity as you will have bills to pay.
The next step re making money off us will need to be very well considered then and I'm sure it will be, because it's something many will shy away from and It would be a shame if the site died just as it was beginning to get going.
Anyway slightly off topic
Thanks again for the answer though.

Pea - you may have seen both the Admin saying that this is their primary job. So you don't expect them to not earn anything from it, do you? I don't mind ads at all, every other site has them and I have become used to it. There are however annoying ones which pop up when you click a link like the casino one's Admin 1 mentioned earlier. Those should be avoided.
The Wonderfully Sweet Little Pea (U6951) - We always stated that flashy banner ads weren't our thing and would damage the user experience and that until the site was more feature complete monetisation wouldn't be in our mindset.
Things like the Live Article, Geo checkins, barriers, filters, social integration etc Were more important than sticking up ads.
We have said across a few threads that trying to make revenue from a site nobody wants to use would be pointless.
ive been designing web page art and layouts for some years now and i'd say that now setanta sports no longer trades on main land uk it looks like some lazy web designer decided he/she would just copy setantas old colour schemes. although setanta did make better use of the colours. im suprised this layout got passed before roll-out, poor effort bbc

I've always found the BBC website to be a joke. They're more bothered about the appearance than they are the ease of access and other fundamental aspects of the site. The only good thing to come out of it was 606.
