Well we did it with Diaz despite having Mane and Jota
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the time Mane and Salah had not renewed their contracts. You know this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mane was going at the end of his contract and Spurs had come in for our replacement in January.
Jota was to add bulk to the attack who could play across the front line when we had lost Sturridge the previous summer.
We have so many attackers we're not going to be bringing in an expensive right sided player, especially when Salah plays nearly every game. The guy would barely get a game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Diaby can play across the front 3 which is what he did at Leverkuson. He would have got the Europa games too. Saudi have been after Salah all summer and eventually there will be an offer which he and the club can't refuse. We have been slow to future plan on this case. Luckily it's too late in window to sell him now but he will be gone next summer.
Back to Diaz. Whether we were forced or not he was still an expensive backup at the time. He was going to be eased in but his quality was so good at the time that he demanded a start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but that's with your predictor of doom hat on. Eventually Salah will leave and we'll get a replacement as we always do. We were never going to buy an expensive backup for ten games a season when we're stoked in attack. Never seen Diaby play anywhere but right but I'm sure he could, however we have multiple options both centrally and left so not much use there.
Diaz was never bought as backup. He was bought to start on the left, after Mane told the club he was leaving at the end of the season and bought early because Spurs came in. Even then he was never backup as Mane played central and Diaz left.
Can't see that happening. Ironically it'll be nice to have the window shut on this front.
On Salah leaving I'm now at sn age where I don't worry.
I worried when we lost Fowler, then Owen, then Torres, then Suarez.
As a club, finding banging forwards is something we do exceptionally well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He wouldn't be going anywhere anyhow, even with a transfer request. Way too late in the window to get a replacement. Although I'd doubt he would want to go to Saudi at this stage of his career. Perhaps if Liverpool have a poor season and there are no better suitors. He has plenty of time left for a last big pay day in Saudi.
Nah if he really wants to move Klopp sanctions it. We might tell him he'll need to stay until Jan, like we did with Coutinho but Klopp doesn't hold players back, who don't want to be here.
There's also that little thing of us getting the right fee

Coutinho was kicking up a stink - the back ‘injury’ which never was. If Salah were prepared to effectively down tools then maybe but he just doesn’t seem the type
I'd love Kvaratskhelia as a replacement if it were to happen. Direct, quick, strong, team player and scores goals. Would be perfect for us. The issue is he plays on the left.
You'll never know. Salah owes us nothing, nor do we owe him anything.
It all comes down to him though and how badly he wants it
I'd say Salah won't have to back John Henry's missus at this stage to be sold. Even then Henry might just send his missus to Saudi for six months until the transfer window opens and then swap them.

Have we? We've sold three players under Klopp he didn't want to sell. Coutinho, who was being tipped for Barca from his first season, at a time we weren't competing for trophies. Fabinho, who nobody would have thought that about since he had several clubs already at a young age. Henderson, perhaps. However with his age and likely being told he was going into the Milner role after the signing of Mac Allister and offer of a last big payday it's not far-fetched.

If Salah is here for the season then how are we slow to future plan? I don't think the club expected to lose Salah next summer, maybe summer after, but they will now know there is added urgency to prepare for Salah's departure.
We signed Diaz knowing Mane was off. We signed Gakpo just last January knowing Firmino was off.
At this time there is nothing to suggest that the club is slow. All indicators suggest the club will have a plan for when Salah is off, but that won't stop the wrist slitters from concocting some long tales and convoluted theories, nothing will actually as we've won it all and it didn't stop them.
I'm saying if they ask to leave, Klopp lets them go regardless.
Fabinho probably being the only exception

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Salah is here for the season then how are we slow to future plan?

I'd be shocked if we sold him. Saudi clubs have had all window and they come in this late even though there interest has been for months, completely disrespectful. No doubt in my mind it's Chelsea backers and Newcastle owners involved in this too.

Agreed.

I'd love Kvaratskhelia as a replacement if it were to happen. Direct, quick, strong, team player and scores goals. Would be perfect for us. The issue is he plays on the left.

You took this thought right out of my brain. He'd be perfect otherwise.

Fair enough although not sure how Fabinho is an exception. He asked to leave and was allowed to do so.
