Both teams had the same idea with the high press. Push 4 upfront and suffocate the defence but obviously the moment they bypass the first wave of the press the midfield is there for the taking

Gakpo had similar games in the ropey last year under Klopp? Didnt he look up for it vs atalanta at anfield but he was the only one?

Think hes looked fit and sharp for a while now just barely played for us. Was doing similar at the euros for the dutch when i watched them.

hes a threat cutting in for the shot but hes also shown he has the pace over a few yards to go down the outside too. Even when they doubled up on him he was causing them problems.

His shooting! We were in control of the game so I was able to laugh at it but feck me, he should be banned from having a shot unless it's an open goal.

He needs to either learn how to shoot or stop shooting. I counted five times where he either ballooned it over or dragged it wide.

he got the early yellow that lead to the equaliser didnt he, he didnt seem too quick even mac10 smoked by him at one point on the underlap. that and being on a yellow gakpo had him scared yh.

have to say the ref was spot on outside a few soft free kicks, but even with those he allowed the game to flow a lot more. Michael Oliver should be embarrassed, the PGMOL should be. That guys prob some slovenian full time pig farmer and miles better ref than anything in the prem.

Not just the shooting...for an attacking fullback his final ball is awful...apart from dead ball situations.

Also we've been using our LB to make underlapping runs quite a bit...both Robbo & Tsimikas don't possess the technique to make it count...both will just look to whip the ball.

Aye, someone like Ait-Nouri be ideal wouldnt he, shame he'dd cost an absolute fortune now. But going by what others say, he cant be the only one there be 1000s of his type. Get it done FSG

I dont mind tsimi in a way, i think when he gets up to speed and form hes a decent enough backup lb at this level. Issue is a team at this level cant afford for it to take him 5/6 games to get there. needs to come in ready and have a good game.

Robbo getting on we do need to start thinking about a lot term replacement anyway.

Enjoyed the game, Gakpo was really good last night. It helped that their dim-wit RB got himself booked after 20 mins but Gakpo had him beaten all game.

Trent really is a class act, we get so used to seeing it but his passing is exceptional.

Thought Grav was really good as well. Got me thinking, I do wonder how the conversation about our midfield might be different if we'd brought Grav this summer and these were his first 5 games as a deep lying midfielder. Because he's not done a lot wrong in 4 of those 5 games. Absolutely loved his slide to block a shot last night and then the celebration with Konate - the game was all but won but the desire to stop a shot on goal was still there; brilliant.

Not saying we don't still need to add in DM (we clearly do) but Grav has exceeded my expectations this season.

Tsimikas is quite poor, for me. Even for a backup. His positioning is isn't great and he's poor on the ball. He should never, ever shoot also. I'd have Gomez in there before him, who did an excellent job in there last season.

Tsimikas just isn’t very good, I’ve been saying this for a long time now. He’s a okay reserve left back and doesn’t mind being one but that’s it.

Binning him and bringing in Ait Nouri would a significant squad upgrade.

any promise at youth level? we seem alright producing rbs chambers was the best lb we had? was in the eng u21 team at some point? outside of that ive not a clue.

ah yeah forgot him, few years older welsh lb. on loan at blackburn atm in the champs. Had a good loan at Dundee if im not mistaken?

I get the impression that we've already made a decision regarding this batch of academy players tbh.

We've moved a lot of them on or on loan. Our reserve side is basically u18s...and our u18 side is basically 16yr olds. So to me that indicates we already know who still has a future here and who we want to move on and we're looking to focus on the next batch now.

Loved that result and game, also saw we've got a perfect win record at San Siro.

Gravenberch easily the man of the match even with some other standouts, his reading of the opposition was excellent and after that, his release was perfect. His role in that third goal was a perfect little show of what he is doing. Chuffed after a quite low Saturday

Yeah and they also have Carragher and McManaman, which of course has no relevance whatsoever but I found funny. Not to forget our famous former goalkeeper Lonergan.

Despite Grav absolutely excelling in the role, I still think we need a 6 to be paired with him.

Grav - Zubimendi would be a really good base of the midfield, plus allows us to get Mac further forward. Lots of different options there.

Obviously, it won't be Zubimendi, just using him as an example!
