Can we please not pretend that the club has this elaborate list of only elite level footballers that can improve our team...we are opportunistic. We thought we could sign him for less than his release clause and failed.
Profile or no profile the only reason we pursued him specifically & so aggressively was because of the opportunity to get him at lesser than his market rate
his release clause was 51m we moved cause he started saying he'd move after years of rejecting multiple clubs out of loyalty to RS. He went back on his word when RS promised him a new contract after stalling with the you have to pay your own 60m buyout clause in person.
now the contracts not been done yet rumours are back.
Opta predicts that Liverpool will need 16 points to advance to the next round of the Champions League:
“By running 50,000 simulations of the group stage, the supercomputer is able to give a probability for the number of points needed to finish in the top eight, and to finish in the top 24.”
“Here’s what we found:”
“In 98% of simulations, 16 points was enough to finish in the top eight, meaning five wins and a draw or four wins and four draws are likely to guarantee progress to the first knockout round.”

I don't agree with any of that ME. Of course they do, every club will do. Klopp even said that he realised his heart wasn't 100% in the job when he met to discuss targets for the 2024 summer window.
Doesn't mean we wont be opportunistic where we can be but we'll have targets, both immediate and longer term.
Barella had a good game vs City.

That said, it’s more than likely bollox designed to get RS to offer a new deal.

Mamba, can you clear this up? Do you think that Slot is the decision maker when it comes to transfers?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have a committee or team of which Slot is a part of. Robbing comes out with all sorts of excrement just to be contrary to whatever I'm saying and he ends up looking dumb every time.
From the horse's own mouth
""That argument I don't understand. If you don't strengthen you become weaker? We stay the same. I truly believe you can help on the training ground and improve. It has helped players to improve here. If other clubs strengthen they become better but it's not always true that new players make you stronger. Every player in the team needs perspective on playing time. If you keep bringing in players the energy goes down. Me and Richard are trying to strengthen, if we think we have found someone, we try to bring him. Unfortunately, the one we found (Zubimendi) said no."
This sounds like something I would say if we're being honest. Here's the link

Yet another mystery solved by pesky Mamba.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
One disagreement I have, cordially, is that you go backwards if you stay the same. In football you have to run to stay still, it’s why even the best teams generally change players year on year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are one of those teams because of our considered apotoach to transfers. Even the managerial appointment is calculated so hopefully we can sign the right players and have a great Arne Slot era.

How do you establish that? Doesn't automatically mean we will improve when we sign someone. It's just a general statement you're making because the club must still identify the player that wants to come and that fits in with other requirements and has the least chance of flopping or pulling a Keita on us.
Slot has explained this well.
But he also has to want to play for us, and fit in with many other requirements so that's a dumb thing to say IMO.

We've also paid the price for not reinforcing properly a couple of times, especially when we ended up signing Ben Davies at CB...
It's ok, there's not really much of a debate here, but I'd have liked to see us sign a DM in the window. Grav has done superbly well but I feel when we play better sides we are going to struggle. Also one injury to Grav and we are fvcked in midfield.
We play too many games to be reliant on such a small number of players.
Varela, Ederson, Florentino, Hjulmand would have improved our squad drastically.

You know, I think this Szob, Grav and Mac midfield is going to develop into something astounding, I really do.
And to be honest you could say the same about an untimely injury to most other clubs - Rice is out and Arsenal are apparently in crisis, Rodri out and City lose a few. We've been stung in past season with freak occurrences with injuries in the same area of the pitch but it's hard to litigate against that unless you have two world-class players in every position.
Our squad is deeper than I can remember right now, Endo waiting in the wings for us if Grav needs break - we're in a good position barring a freak occurrence again
yes but theres no guarantee strengthening by panic buying and signing a lower choice player would have made up for anything. Its a risk and one that could effect future transfers with a knock on effect. As would overpaying out of desperation would effect future business. As would breaking salary structure.
ofc theres loads of players out there, doesnt mean we're willing to go for them and take the gamble. nor does it mean we agree with the clubs valuations and are willing to break our own. Then theres their side of things, not every players willing to jump at the chance to join us, Zubimendi?
Every transfer is a gamble and has risk, its up to the team to pick and choose which we take and how we go about it. Doing so calmly and in no rush is best imo even if it means making do temporarily.
And quite frankly theyve done an astounding job operating like that over the years, be idiots to stray from it just to make fans happy.
And with as much certainty as possible* its always gonna abe a gamble. I want them to be as convinced on any signing as they possibly can be. If theyre not im happy with a low key transfer window, such as the one just gone.
Same fans btw who would be the first to jump on them if they got it wrong settling for a lower choice optiton or a player they were less sure on but signed under fan pressure.
Or signed a player Slot doesnt really want just cause* so we sign Ugarte and Slot barely plays him. Seen that tbefore with Rafa.

Slot and Richard beg to differ seeing as we didn't go for them, even after Zubi turned us down. These players improving us is a matter of opinion and that's yours.
How do you know they want to come here? You said no to Zubi because we can only sign players who want to be here. What are their wage demands and do they fit our wage structure? Do we wanna pay 200k per week to another Keita or Thiago? What about the fee? And are they the right age?
Ultimately, saying there's many players that can improve us is just stoopid IMO. When we find the right player we will go for them.
You know, I think this Szob, Grav and Mac midfield is going to develop into something astounding, I really do.

I think it can work if they cover for each other with hard work and lots of running. Would be nice if it did so we can be done with this stoopid "ball winner" phase.

I don't know whether those players would want to join, I do know that Zubi definitely didn't want to join though.
If none of them wanted to join, then fine, but we didn't go in for them did we. Let's not pretend most of our transfer business isn't leaked to the media too. We know what's happening for most deals.
And regarding the Rice comment. Arsenal are in trouble because they have lost Rice and Merino (and Odegaard), and they still have Partey.
If we lose Gravenberch or Mac, then it's Endo / Jones. Huge downgrade. We will play 50+ games this season, we need more options.

We have a committee or team of which Slot is a part of. Robbing comes out with all sorts of excrement just to be contrary to whatever I'm saying and he ends up looking dumb every time.

Of course. Not long ago we had FSG out because of flops like Keita.
