Scholes was one of the standout players in a series of phenomenal team
=====================
Stand out players are usually recognised through individual honours. If don't get those then it means there are better players out there.
-------------------------------------

No, it just means there are more popular or higher profile players out there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet the likes of Xavi/Iniesta win individual honours during Messi/Ronaldo era.
I consider the logic total nonsense. Suarez wasn't popular either. Stamd out players are ALWAYS recognised.

How about you show us xavi and Iniesta personal honours. i'm sure they have a lot as well. Is Gerrard better than them? Get out of here.

You are really clutching at straws with some of these awards. Motm at a semi final?!?! 30% of those awards are being part of the best team as well, which during those tournaments had most if not all of the Spanish starting 11.

When I go to other countries not many people even know Scholes. Everybody knows Gerrard.

Now you're just making shít up.

Also, TOOR, you can find quotes like that abvout any player - I just Googled 'Scholes Quotes' and found this

Nice to see Gerrard get some appreciation from other fans. There's been some real bile written about him from some opposing fans since the announcement.

In terms of all round midfielders Gerrard is probably the very best. He can do pretty much everything - pass, tackle, shoot, can play as a defensive holding midfielders, an attacking midfielder, right sided, even left sided, behind the striker, he's played at right back. He could probably pay as a centreback if need be. On that basis he's above Scholes for me. Scholes was brilliant footballer, he dictated the game from the middle and his passing was superb, but he didn't have the versatility of Gerrard.

The biggest mistake England managers made was
not building the England team around a central partnership of Scholes and Gerrard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does his playing at right-back cement his position as a great midfielder? It shows his versatility as a player, but not his quality as a midfielder.

Nor does his ability to get around the pitch suggest that England's greatest failing was not having him as a permanent part of a midfield two...where he would have had to be much more positionally disciplined.

Fact is his one truly great season was 2009, when he mainly played off Torres as an unconventional number 10...but was he better than Bergkamp there, or Ronaldo, or Zola? Was he even playing as a "midfielder" that year?

Also of minor note that his two defining games - Milan and West Ham - were both games in which Liverpool shipped 3 goals...Gerrard was arguably a great midfielder at digging his side out of a hole, arguably not so great at preventing them getting into that hole in the first place.

Always rated lampard above him and always will. If he did what he did any liverpool or United he will be worshipped as a god and rightly so. Ours and liverpools fan base (who permiate the media with their bias) tend to overrate players from those clubs. This is going to be blaphemous coming from a united fan but he should top that list easily! Almost 200 goals AND still producing well in his 30s. Strikers are more respected for much less (see rooney) let alone a midfielder with all honours any club player can imagine. No contest really if anyone is honest here

This comment appears to be suggesting Scholes wasn't 'World Class'...

It also appears to suggest Beckham was 'World Class' as everyone knows about him.

Please confirm if you believe that to be the case

Why is it often the case that praising one player becomes about bashing others?

Scholes and Gerrard are two of the best English footballers I imagine I will ever see.

Scratch that. They're two of the best footballers of any nationality that I imagine I will ever see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not here to bash Scholes, I think he was a great player but not the best. Certainly in the top ten midfielders in the Premier League era.

I've often felt that Beckham was to blame because we needed to accomodate him in a 442. I think we'd have seen more success with one striker.

Scholes----Gerrard
------Lampard
Beckam-----J Cole
-------Rooney

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It was always a case of picking the best 11 individuals and trying to fit them in instead of building a team. No manager had the balls to drop either one or two of Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes or Beckham.

Well I'm gonna side with the professional opinions over fans who dislike Gerrard for reasons other than football.

So because someone doesn't agree with you they must have a personal dislike for Gerrard? Brilliant.

I find it hilarious when you post a list of honours when people who don't like it as it proves them wrong, nit pick at the lessor honours and completely ignore the huge honours awarded. It's pathetic and shows how much of an imbecile a person really is.

I completely disagree with this. You can find quotes like this for virtually any top player/manager.

"I find it hilarious when you post a list of honours when people who don't like it as it proves them wrong, nit pick at the lessor honours"

I'm not ignoring the bigger ones, I'm just saying that you're placing far too much weight on their importance. Crap players and managers can win awards relative to their level too...

Gerrard won many honours, and was an absolutely fantastic player, don't get me wrong - but he wasn't at Scholes' level. Like I say - Giggs has tons of honours and he's not World Class either.

I haven't started to WUM. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they are On the WUM. Are all the professionals I posted who agree with me on the WUM? Are the awarding bodies who gave the best players like Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta etc on the WUM. Wise up.

This is frim arguably the best manager in the past 6-8 years if we are going by trophies. I'm sorry but you can't find quotes like this about every top player from top top managers of the game. This man has managed some of the finest footballers of this generation.
