Well I'm gonna side with the professional opinions over fans who dislike Gerrard for reasons other than football.
----------------------------
So because someone doesn't agree with you they must have a personal dislike for Gerrard? Brilliant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You admitted it yourself and have spent your time on this article listing the reason why people would dislike him and yet you think it's a stupid thing to say? Brilliant.
--------------------------------
Someone (cant remember who) asked why people don't like Gerrard. I put forwards some reasons.
I didn't say that these reasons were why I believe that Gerrard isn't as good as Scholes and have provided footballing reasons as to why I rate the latter higher.
Besides, I am just one person. I was talking about everyone who thinks that Scholes is the better player.
I haven't started to WUM. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they are On the WUM. Are all the professionals I posted who agree with me on the WUM? Are the awarding bodies who gave the best players like Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta etc on the WUM. Wise up.
--
So, are the same professionals on the WUM when they make the same comments about Scholes? Some of those awards you listed are nothing to do with being the best player and are entirely irrelevant. Like I said, I grant you he has been a fantastic player and has won virtually everything there is to win - that is in NO WAY relevant to whether or not he was a better player than Scholes.

They don't count as he has an honorary membership of John Moore's in there. According to the imbeciles that is. We just discredit the massive awards due to the couple of not so significant ones. Not to mention the fact that Scholes, the player they claim is better, doesn't have many awards and basically none of you take away the lesser ones.

For a man who understands what control of a game is all about. I'm done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I completely disagree with this. You can find quotes like this for virtually any top player/manager.
"I find it hilarious when you post a list of honours when people who don't like it as it proves them wrong, nit pick at the lessor honours"
I'm not ignoring the bigger ones, I'm just saying that you're placing far too much weight on their importance. Crap players and managers can win awards relative to their level too...
Gerrard won many honours, and was an absolutely fantastic player, don't get me wrong - but he wasn't at Scholes' level. Like I say - Giggs has tons of honours and he's not World Class either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's funny how you dismiss the value of individual honours (awarded by fellow professionals and managers), yet post a video of one manager praising Scholes after announcing retirement. It's one thing praising a player/qualities in the media, it's another thing expressing the recognition through voting/awarding the player for his qualities.

Nice to see Gerrard get some appreciation from other fans. There's been some real bile written about him from some opposing fans since the announcement.
In terms of all round midfielders Gerrard is probably the very best. He can do pretty much everything - pass, tackle, shoot, can play as a defensive holding midfielders, an attacking midfielder, right sided, even left sided, behind the striker, he's played at right back. He could probably pay as a centreback if need be. On that basis he's above Scholes for me. Scholes was brilliant footballer, he dictated the game from the middle and his passing was superb, but he didn't have the versatility of Gerrard.
The biggest mistake England managers made was
not building the England team around a central partnership of Scholes and Gerrard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does his playing at right-back cement his position as a great midfielder? It shows his versatility as a player, but not his quality as a midfielder.
Nor does his ability to get around the pitch suggest that England's greatest failing was not having him as a permanent part of a midfield two...where he would have had to be much more positionally disciplined.
Fact is his one truly great season was 2009, when he mainly played off Torres as an unconventional number 10...but was he better than Bergkamp there, or Ronaldo, or Zola? Was he even playing as a "midfielder" that year?
Also of minor note that his two defining games - Milan and West Ham - were both games in which Liverpool shipped 3 goals...Gerrard was arguably a great midfielder at digging his side out of a hole, arguably not so great at preventing them getting into that hole in the first place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're being a bit of a pedant.
The examples of him playing as a right back was used to exemplify how versatile he was, that he was a complete footballer and obviously not to show how good a midfielder he was, more so what a good foot
baller he was. The fact that he did play well in every position in midfield is what makes him the complete midfielders. There's aren't many other midfielders who can do that. Keane was brilliant in many ways but he wasn't a goal scorer. He couldn't have played on the right wing either. Scholes was brilliant in many ways but the defensive side of his game wasn't good. Gerrard could do it all.
When he was given a role he stuck to it with discipline so I'm not sure what your point is when you try to suggest he has no positional discipline. When he was played on the right, you would find him on the right. he wouldn't just wander to the left back position. When playing defensive he would stick to be defensive. When asked to play as an attacking midfielder he did just that. When we needed him to be the marauding box to box midfielder he also did that.
I'm sorry, but if you think he was only ever good in 2009 then you either don't watch much football, or you're a wum who's after a bite.

It proves what I said. Nobody I've met abroad knows who Scholes is or at least don't mention him when talking about the best.
I see Scholes as a much better version of Carrick, good passer, moves the ball on and let's the better players do the game winning. Of course Scholes had an element of game winning himself which Carrick didn't have.
Fact is his one truly great season was 2009

===============================
Really? I mean REALLY?
I said this earlier but I stand by it. Fúck being one the PL's greatest midfielders - he's one of the greatest PL players.
He's been in the team of the year more than anyone else, 8 out of his 16 seasons, has nearly 500 appearances and well over 100 goals. Trophies, personal accolades and citation from fellow professionals around the world. Class act in this Premier League and a stand out player.
Just as a footnote the 2009 comment is laughable it really is.
When it comes to managers they are judged on how good a team they have. If they have a crap team but finish in a high position they might get the award for being the best manager that year. Which is understandable as they have to work with a team. Individual player awards come down to the individual player not the team.
There's isn't a fan of European football in the world today above the age of 20 who doesn't know about Paul Scholes. Same as Gerrard. Same as Lampard.
To say otherwise simply isn't true.
Scholes has controlled games against Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan in their pomp. Thus i'd expect at least the fans of those clubs to be aware of him.

This article is about Gerrards standing in the game and as such I do feel that the personal accolades are telling.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They don't count as he has an honorary membership of John Moore's in there. According to the imbeciles that is. We just discredit the massive awards due to the couple of not so significant ones. Not to mention the fact that Scholes, the player they claim is better, doesn't have many awards and basically none of you take away the lesser ones.

Honestly nobody knows Scholes outside of the UK.

Honestly nobody knows Scholes outside of the UK. Gerrard has always been a worldwide household name like other world class players.

This comment appears to be suggesting Scholes wasn't 'World Class'...
It also appears to suggest Beckham was 'World Class' as everyone knows about him.
Please confirm if you believe that to be the case

I think that TOOR has not got to the point that he has started to WUM because people don't agree with this assessment of Gerrard/Scholes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't started to WUM. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they are On the WUM. Are all the professionals I posted who agree with me on the WUM? Are the awarding bodies who gave the best players like Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta etc on the WUM. Wise up.
------------------------
I am referring specifically to your suggestion that nobody outside of the UK knows who Scholes is. That is a joke, or a wum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm basing that only on my personal experiences. I met a United fan on my last trip abroad who is crazy about Ronaldo. Mentioned loads of players throughout the past twenty years or so and no mention of Scholes. First non-United player he mentioned was Gerrard.
------------------------------
Well done - you have used one person's personal hierarchy of United players to reflect the opinions of everyone outside of the UK. Are you serious?
