Tcw.. bought a caliper. Arrived today. Measured 3 spots. Chest, Abs, thight. Came out with 12% bodyfat. Something not right there.
Those bars are not only average, potentially dangerous, they are also ridiculously expensive - and i don't know about you - but they never sated me.
I think potentially dangerous is a bit extreme. Sure, they are. As are, walking, breathing, rolling over in bed, white rice, bananas, pigeons, house dust and mobile phone covers.
Mr C you think you should be lower or higher. Plastic calipers give you a good enough but still rough approximation. Metal calipers are much better but cost like £500 or some sh'it.
Tcw, i should be higher. I tested one spot. my abs and then checked it on the guide that came with the calipers. said im 18%.
then went onto bodybuilding.com, tested 3 sites, entered it on their calculator and it said 12% bodyfat
I dont look 12% surely your abs would be start to show with 12% or is this really 12% In that case i got a mountain to climb to get an ab
I have a hard copy of tables which I use, and I usually take 4 measurements, 2 on the arms, 1 under the shoulder blade and 1 by the hip. They aren't totally accurate but 12 -> 18% is a bit extreme. Remember everyone has different distributions of weight and also that there will be some variance as you're not practiced with them (also them being plastic makes them a bit second rate).
Try a 4 point test. Watch a youtube video on how it's done. Then tell me what you get.
Leonardo, i think it is 'extreme' at all. Bodybuilders are not particularly known as the physiologically healthy bunch.
Mr.C, unless you are in competition, why are you worries about percentage points on your body fat?
Isn't it axiomatic, that 'generally', if your abs are visible, you are 12% and under? A mirror is the best examination anyway.
Or are you getting 'buff for a trip to Aiya Napa' for the lads and layettes and for a spot of hobnobbing with the TOWIE bunch?
12% won't give you a defined six pack but you won't have a gut either. At 12% chances are you've got some abdominal definition and a couple of weeks cut would put you over the edge.
TRC you don't think a better turn of phrase would be 'are not particularly healthy' as opposed to 'potentially dangerous'.

No, just to get more defined and harden muscle really. so for that, fat needs to be stripped off. I agree. Mirror is the best tool to use.

Leonardo DiCaprio, admittedly my stance is controversial and impossible to prove, but i am resolute in my claims. I'd modify it by stating 'prolonged taking' of protein bars/ powder is potentially deleterious to one's health
A cursory glance on the internet would provide some support to the claim. Listen, i still have a tub of unopened whey and some protein bars, but i very very rarely take em anymore. I make my own whey, it is fairly easy tbf.
It's not even that I disagree with you. It's just that 'dangerous' is such a loaded term, and there are so many different bars. Some of which are organic, cold produced and vegan. I find it difficult to argue with that holy trifecta
Generally with supplements, they gotta be expensive. Got to buy the cold produced organic maximum purity whether it's your multivitamin or your shake.
I practice what I preach but not with my whey. It's so expensive. Though now I get through so little of it I should probably make a switch.
''Generally with supplements, they gotta be expensive. Got to buy the cold produced organic maximum purity whether it's your multivitamin or your shake.''
I agree. I am not particularly a meathead and tbf, only go to the gym twice a week these days (though i swim daily). The only supplements i take every day now is 'Fermented Cod liver oil' and boy oh boy, it is painfully expensive but it works for my needs. Oh, and i buy it for my lady too.
Occasionally i take Magnesium!
I recall when i used to spend in excess of 300 pounds a month on supplements. Yikes!
The vulcanisers and mechanics in Sub-Saharan Africa and the like manage to be pretty defined without expensive concotions
Stop using the synonym feature for all your words.
Oh yeah, and if you fancy living the life of a sub-saharan vulcaniser then you can get defined supplement free too I imagine.
I've taken loads of supplements and I don't think anything has really made a huge difference. Nothing beats good quality fresh food, regular exercise and the right amount of sleep.
TCw i retested, my chest (18), thigh 20) and abs (20)
