Blarmy, I use both Dumbbell and machines. People say dumbellls are better or machines are better but its not really about that. Its how you use it and if you've got the right form on a machine, it can have as much effect on your body as a free weight.

No like when you hold the barbell on the bench press, make sure the pressure doesnt go all onto your wrist, spin your hands around so your knuckles are facing the ceiling.

Yeh I have never really paid enough attention, might try it next time in the gym.

I barely barbell bench, but thats cos I always go to the gym alone so don't really want to push myself on barbell solo.

Machines take away multiple planes of motion Mr C. Isolated exercise, well, maybe for a roid monkey of a bodybuilder or an 80 year old or someone who's doing rehab but not for most people.

I use it because them because they are easy to do drop sets on at the end of a session, cant always get a bench. Been working for me anyway and do flat barbell, close grip, dumbell and incline

Yeah TCW, one example, dumbbell press, I dont feel as much tear on my chest as I do with the machine. With the machine, I feel each rep ripping my chest muscles whereas with the dumbbells I dont. Ive got long arms so for me to feel it with a dumbbell, i need to usually take it wide and as far down as possible.

lets rewrite that: I use them because they are easy to do drop sets on at the end of a session and I cant always get a bench. Been working for me anyway and i do flat barbell, close grip barbell bench press, flat dumbell and incline dumbell as the main lifts plus accessory. Machines are really just extra

Some 'machines' are good. Cables, leg press, lat pulldown. I don't hate chest press.

Worst machine is 'abdominal curl' feck off whoever invented that. Get the bosu ball out

There's some machines though, that do nothing at all for me. No matter what weight I use, or the grip or my form, it doesnt feel like im getting the most of out of the exercise.

TCW

Blarmy, I use machines, cables and sometimes dumbbells for chest. I love the cables.

Can't go to the gym and mod ja as the phone is banned from the gym room. Had been doing dumbell work outs at home, but tore a tendon in my hand crashing my bikr. Tried getting back on the wagon 7months later, but lost motivation having to remove 8kg from each dumbell and still struggling.

Got a multi gym last year but been too lazy to clear the garage so I can build it.

Ive tried working out at home. Bought some weights. Just not the same as in a gym.

I haven't been to the gym in almost 2 months and I'm going to start going again from Saturday. Is it unrealistic to think I'll be able to lift the same amount of weight/reps as before?

Love the smith machine.

Modding from the gym is a non starter for me. At home I had done fairly well with a signalling approach. Doing 150 pressups over the course of the day. Was quite easy to shoehorn in.

So tough to workout from home for me, even to do a simple ab exercise I lack all motivation.

posted on 21/5/15

Yeah, ive got an ab roller in my room. I do it a few times, give up and end up eating something.

posted on 21/5/15

I bought a yoga ball and a medicine ball for ab workouts, used it a few times the first week. dunno where it is now.

How many times do you gym Edin?

posted on 21/5/15

4-6 times a week. My job is pretty physically exerting as well, plus I play football and basketball a few times a week.

Smashed it. i need to up my cardio game. Keep saying it but never get around to doing it.

posted on 21/5/15

Possibly overdo it a bit tbf. Its a tough balance keeping fit/good at sport and then trying to gain muscle.

Which is why I probably don't see the gym results that I should.

Pick up a sport Mr C. I can't do cardio to save my life unless it is playing some form of sport. Don't think I have been on a run/cycle/row in over a year.

Find a few people to play squash with once or twice a week and your laughing.

True Edin. Im thinking of taking up swimming.
