Some 'machines' are good. Cables, leg press, lat pulldown. I don't hate chest press.
Worst machine is 'abdominal curl'feck off whoever invented that. Get the bosu ball out
Nighty night

Facking hate ab machines. I feel nothing with those.
The worst thing is when I see fat people using them. Just feel like ripping them away from it.

The smith machine can fúck off

I do pull ups, australians, a sort of tricep extension and windscreen wipers on the smith, and that's just off the top of my head.
Forza I would say form in almost every person's case. If you keep perfect form then you will get more out of your exercise.
There is a bit of an exception when developing strength and power, but even then form is still important. You just might get away with arching your back while benching to get a few extra kg.
Form is king. Then introduce more intensity when you are confident that you can take it without it hammering your form.

The first two dont require a smith machine tbf. You know the majority of guys use it for things that they should be using a barbell for
Yeah I agree. It's a gains stealing atrocity. But I do use it for lots of stuff, just not the stuff it was designed in mind for.
If the smith machine is giving you results then why use a barbell.

It's giving you BS results. Too much isolation. You can put size into a muscle with a fixed motion machine, sure. What you don't do is develop the supporting cast in the movement, and so you'll make one muscle stronger, but without the others to act as synergists you create an imbalance, increasing likelihood of injury when you use freeweights as you probably overreach for the synergists, as the prime mover is strong
Like I said, if you're a monster or a competitive bodybuilder then machines are for you. If you're old or rehabing a joint / muscle then machines are for you.
There are some very cool machines out there. It's just the ones which remove multiple planes of motion that i'm referring to.
Even then. I'm not saying on chest day you can't hit the chest machine or anything like that. Just make sure you use freeweights as well!

If someone is totally new to training and a bit feeble then there's no shame in starting them on machines, while their body gets used to being commanded to actually contract their muscles. But you gotta wean them off them quick-ish. It's just a re-education thing
I'd recommend mostly mobility/form work to a complete beginner tbh. But everyone just wants fast results i guess
Well as I don't work in a gym setting I don't have any machines for when I get a beginner. But then I am big on the old 'primal movement pattern' stuff. Ultimately you need very little equipment to train 99% of people.
99% might be a bit high. But certainly most people don't need much more than what i've got. Some elastic, foam roller, yoga mat, couple of swiss balls, a few kettlebells and a barbell up to 70kg. Oh, and my weighted vest fecking brilliant.
And a bosu ball. I don't even bother with my swiss ball most of the time, it just takes up too much space inflated.
