Ronaldo knew he was leaving in his last season and still performed to a very high standard, why wouldnt De Gea do the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think De Gea knew is was leaving too which is why he was playing out of his skin however United pulled the wool and didnt want to lose him on the cheap.

They are an absolute joke of a club, they tried to get him on the last day of the Spanish window because they thought we'd back down on our price, now it's blown up in their face and they release this joke of a statement.

They should have got Benitez to read it out instead with each point ending in FACKT.

7. The Manchester United reached the final agreement with representatives of Keylor Navas at 23:53 Spanish time and is at that time when the contracts are sent to the player to be signed.
________________

So....RM had three months to agree a fee for De Gea but they deliberately waited until the last possible minute in order to test our resolve and try to get him on the cheap. As such they ended up agreeing the deal with only 7 minutes to spare to complete the paperwork...

And they have the nerve to say that this is United's fault? If they had offered £20m plus Navas in the first place then this deal would have been done months ago FFS!

"Will we be releasing a statement on the matter?"

I don't see why we should tbh. The fact that Madrid released a formal statement so quickly makes them look like the guilty party imo. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much...

No, they're trying to make out they did nothing wrong. They had weeks to sort this whole mess out. Everyone knew we were willing to sell for the right price, they seemed to think they could bully us. You don't have to wait for the selling club to agree negotiations before making a bid, they should know that themselves the way they tapped up Ronaldo.

Well hang on. It clearly says that Utd did not open negotiations until yesterday morning.

Now I'm guessing here but I suspect that is because they were ridiculously trying to get Ramos in the deal.

Utd finally buckled cos they were worrying about losing umpteen millions so negotiated a deal in three hours for a cash plus player deal.

They then took eight hours to return the paperwork!

One thing’s for sure, whether Madrid were at fault or not, they won’t be too happy selling United anyone, anytime soon (eg Bale). Same possibly applies to either club trying to sign any Mendes’ handled players too.

So De Gea walks away next summer and gets a £20mil signing on fee from Real Madrid,so who exactly is the loser in this situation.?

The guess or relying on the only empirical evidence available?

Madrid are WOUND UP

If these 'facts' are a true statement of events then it's 100% United's fault that the deal didn't go through.

Either they didn't want it to go through and cheekily ran the clock out by submitting at 00:00 or they were trying to make it as painful as possible and accidentily ran out of time at the last minute.

Either way, a full business day is more than enough to do a transfer. It happens all the time.

If United wanted to keep him, then they 'won'.
If they didn't, they fooked up, not Madrid.

I wonder if the guy who wrote this Real Madrid statement is the same guy that wrote the match report for the Chelsea website when they got battered by City?

Louis van long ball thought you were the better side against Swansea

Yes I know this but that's not the three months that a lot of the rose tinted specs types are saying on here is it.

United didn't open negotiations until yesterday morning. Why should we. We would only sell for the right price. I suspect we 'only started negotiations' once Real bid an amount close to our valuation. Should we just have taken the £15m they offered in the summer?

Blame Mendes.

Perhaps negotiate? Which they did once they opened negotiations so....

Real have to play a keeper they don't want.

United have a keeper who would prefer to play for Madrid because they are based in Madrid.

DDG might have to get used to watching the games this season from the stand. Then watching Euro 2016 on TV. Ball is in his court. He could sign a new contract, though and play football.

Right now there are no proper winners. Thats all down to Real Madrid though.

Poor wum attempt or you just being thick.

I would like to think it is the first one.

Really hope Madrd get that transfer ban as well now.

posted on 1/9/15

without knowing what each side really wanted, you can't say who won or deserves credit / deserves blame.

Maybe Real wanted the deal to stall and are planning on saving £15mil by buying in a few months time

Maybe United want to keep him all season

Maybe option 3, 4, 5......

Could be just a fookup all around and no one got what they wanted. Maybe both clubs got what they wanted (closed door agendas, not the public stuff)

I really don't see why we would p-ss around like this, so you think we didn't really want Navas and it was all just a game?

We probably didn't make things easy for Real but at the same time it seems made it clear he was available for the right fee.

posted on 1/9/15

It would be quite way to view this through Madrids eyes and have a very different perspective to be fair. There are still assumptions being made on both sides of the debate.

Navas and De Gea are the ones to feel sorry for really.

Is it too late to approach Athletico?

Cash + De Gea for their keeper and Griezmann?

We get a good keeper, and Greizmann, and they get a replacement keeper, DDG gets to go home, Real Madrid get nothing
