United didn't open negotiations until yesterday morning. Why should we. We would only sell for the right price. I suspect we 'only started negotiations' once Real bid an amount close to our valuation. Should we just have taken the £15m they offered in the summer?
=====================
Perhaps negotiate? Which they did once they opened negotiations so....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Real Madrid were told what we would have to pay for him in the summer, after we rejected their £15m bid. They finally offered the amount yesterday, with around 10 hours of the window left.
Are we supposed to actively initiate negotiations for a player we don't really want to sell?
The Spanish window is closed, of course we can't sell him to Atletico now.

If these 'facts' are a true statement of events then it's 100% United's fault that the deal didn't go through.
...................
Poor wum attempt or you just being thick.
I would like to think it is the first one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If RM's statement is actual fact, there is no culprit other than United. 8hrs to return a doc then submitting at 00:00 when the deadline for both parties to submit is 11:59:59.
It can't be anyone other than United's fault.
If the statement is even accurate of course.

This is correct, everything else is just conjecture by people blaming Madrid based on their opinions of the situation.

From initial discussions, to formal negotiations these type of transfers can take weeks to organise.
For example the Bale deal took three months of negotiations to even get Levy to consult directly with Madrid.
While that may be the exception to the rule, given DDG has not been involved for United all season (circa a month) it’s reasonable to conclude talks, (on some level) over the transfer have been ongoing for some time.

Oh dear.
Thick it is then.
The fact that Madrid had to write a statement indicates it was their fault. Hope it turns out to be United's fault just to stick it in Madrid's face.

I get the impression Real were playing silly bûggars and thought we'd fold and sell him on their terms.
If they wanted to sign him on our terms they'd have concluded this ages ago.

Not sure whose fault it was but the whole thing has been a shambles. The lad wanted to go and never once kicked up a fuss or handed a transfer request in.
The club and LVG should have made up their minds one way or another.
Also interestingly reported that we contacted Madrid to do a deal in the morning. Strange if that is so and it would mean that United did want money also at the last possible moment. So perhaps in a game of brinkmanship there has been no real winner and De Gea is stuck in Manchester. However he gets a whopping amount of money just to wait one more season. From his perspective he has been let down more by Madrid for sure.

Which is exactly why it is their own fault.
Not sure how this is difficult to understand. I know the dips are really just wumming, no one can really be as thick as Kaisers is pretending to be.

United are expected to release a statement as well now.

The docs were sent to United to sign at 11.53 Spanish time - according to the official statement from Real Madrid. By my calculations United were given 7 minutes to return the paperwork. No idea how you managed to turn this into 8 hours.
And why are you conveniently ignoring the fact that Madrid had three months to send the paperwork to United in the first place?
In sum, RM had three months and decided to give us 7 minutes instead. In addition, RM can only confirm when an email was received - they have no way of knowing when it was actually SENT by United. Only United will have that evidence and they have stated that they sent the docs to Real Madrid on time.
Anyone who thinks this is "obviously United's fault" clearly has an agenda that does not include logic or common sense. Aka Spurs fans.

Are you being serious? DDG threw such a strop that the manager feels he cannot trust him to play football, despite the fact that he is paid millions.
He agreed a deal with Real Madrid months ago by all accounts, without permission from his employers, and then sulked when he didn't get his way.
Are you seriously suggesting that DDG is blameless in all this? Wow.

Looney, where did you get quotes that we contacted them to make the trade?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn't know anything, he reads sections of every paper and thinks they're factual. He's an idiot.
Makes both clubs look a bit ridiculous

Maybe its the statement thats a bit lost in translation by some.
But I find it hard to believe that any football club who ideally want to keep a player, would actively seek out a buyer to sell that player. Doesn't make sense.
There's no way we initiated contact with RM.
