I think the player that's surprised me the most has been Shami.
Bowling around 90mph, Consistent, And with good variation. Has significantly improved.
He was very average the last time i saw him play test cricket.

You won last time batting second.. Stokes & Bairstow showed how to fight back in first innings..

In any match it's tough to come back when you give a lead of 200 or so. Young lad Hameed also proved in second innings but can't help if you select players like Ansari or Duckett!!👍

Agree regarding Shami. Same could be said about Ashwin and Jadeja.. Overall our bowling looks lot improved from last year!

It will still take a massive effort for India to win the series..I think India have only won 2 tests in the last 3 series against England.

So England lose heavily in the end. All the hard work of yesterday forgotten. But they lost this Test at the toss... completely different game if cook wins the toss

Thanks A14 for your precious input. Don't know how last time England won batting second

Congrats India! 🍺

England 100% deserved to lose not only because quite clearly India outplayed them, but just the attitude of chasing 405 in 1.5 days.

Why try and draw the game? To be able to bat for 150 overs in such a monumental effort, what use is it if you just get a draw. Also, you are putting no pressure on the bowler, they know all you are doing is trying to survive.

I'm not saying they should go out there and smack, but just play sensibly and to the situation. I would rather lose badly trying to win a game, rather than lose by small margin trying not to lose.

As it happened, they tried to draw and got thrashed. Really negative mindset got toally what it deserved.

JT - I understand where you're coming from, but I dont think Cook was ever going to try to go for the win.

He'd have been taken apart in the press, and understandably so. I'd hazard a guess and say 100% of all test playing teams would have just tried to bat out the day and go for the draw.

Its a 5 match series, and you have to set your team up to try to win the series, not think about 1 game.

If they had played care free, trying to hit a boundary of every over, then yes I agree. But to make 405 in 1. days would've been less than 3 an over. If they were chasing 550 or 600, I would've understood the caution.

But if most teams had have played for the draw and I agree they probably would have, this is what is the problem with cricket these days.

Just the attitude, would rather block for 160 overs than win a test for your country in tough conditions.

I also think had England given some sort of indication that they may threaten a win, Kohli may have spread the field out and it may have even been easier to survive.

Excellent win for us. Spinners eventually did their job as we all thought and Jayant Yadav was mightily impressive. Another MOTM for Kohli - totting up aren't they.

Hopefully we go up to Chandigarh with the same side as no one really deserves to be dropped.

When's.....can't remember his name. Batsman with the same surname as someone else in the squad. Think he plays for Mumbai.

Anyway, when's he back ?

Winks you talking about Rohit Sharma winks? He was initially ruled out of the first two tests but he underwent a thigh operation last week and is not going to play in the series at all.

Thing with Rohit is he has all the shots in the world as well some brilliant strokeplay but his decision making lets him down massively. World class on his day but that day arrives once a blue moon. KL Rahul should take his chance while he has it.

Yeah

That's a shame. Some player on his day as you say.

I was in india in 2008 I think it was when he scored a 100 in the domestic final. Fantastic innings.

Rhythm is quite a big thing for bowlers. I agree with just true that with the way England played, they gave India the advantage. If England played their shots when necessary, our pacers were already all over the place yesterday. It would not have guaranteed a win, but would have given them a better chance to draw.

Rohit should never play tests imo, he is already 30, and he clearly lacks the technique to play on tough pitches. He makes a good limited over player(still not the best because despite being an opener his average is pretty crap).

I am hoping England win the toss in mohali, so that we can see whether a toss has a big impact or not

Viru I've been hearing great things about young Rishabh Pant who you mentioned before. I know he was briefly bought for a massive amount in IPL but he looks an aggressive opener in the Sehwag mould who plays a very natural game. Smashed a 48 ball century against Jharkhand with some massive sixes too - plus leading scorer in Ranji this year. Reckon he'll make it?

After all we have another player who came up from the Delhi sysytem and he's not doing too badly these days

posted on 22/11/16

Yeah he is just 19 years old, and he is a WK. Just being in the team he will benefit a lot. And it's not like Saha has done any justice with the bat as a WK. I reckon he will get a look at after this eng series. That will give enough chance for Saha to justify his place.
