Stoke weren’t a bigger club than Derby even when they were in the EPL. Even less so now, but they do have cash to spend.
If he wasn’t tempted when they were in the Prem he definitely won’t be now.
My view is it’s paper talk.
Moyes and Allardyce have just rejoined the managerial merry-go-round, joining Pardew for a fun spin, I reckon one of those will take the job.
I was told that Rowett had let it be known he was tempted by Stoke last season. Probably it was just to get himself an improved deal at Derby rather than genuine interest on his part. It seemed at the time that we were more likely than Stoke to be playing Premiership football in 2018/19. Which club is more likely to be promoted next season? The only way I can see this happening would be if the parameters of the Derby job have changed and money is tighter than he was led to believe. I doubt there is anything he wasn’t already aware of. It’s most likely just bookies making odds -the fact that Rowett came close before means they think he could be in the frame again. I’d give it long odds..
My feelings too Vidal.
Lazy journalism. Just recycle previous names linked chuck in a couple of recently sacked managers and you have yourself a list of “candidates” or list of runners to punt on.
I think Stoke will wait for Steve Bruce who’ll be sacked by Villa for not getting them promoted despite having the most loaded hand in the history of the EFL.
Not too fussed one way or the other tbh: it's not like he's done a great deal with the squad so if we're to change managers, now's the time.
Jury's out for me on Rowett's first season: not bad, but not great either. His recruitment has not been all bad but extending the contracts of Keogh and Fozzy was and is a puzzle. I still don't think Jerome fits the bill and a 2.5 year contract to him was a mistake, or at best a gamble on immediate promotion that didn't come off.
If Stoke will give us compo, let him go.
Stoke would be in for Vydra if he joined them, paper talk is Vydra is going to Newcastle for a pittance. At least if this happened we would actually receive a decent valuation of our best players instead of being the Poundshop of the Championship. The next manager then might have the money to build the team they want.
here here 666,
there s no loyalty anymore.money talks.if it is true and he goes, then we ll appoint some other manager, cross our fingers and go again..
id like to throw some of the young ones in next season with a few old heads and see where we go.
we play at the moment, very defensive, home and away,i dont like it and many other fans feel the same way.
There’s another way of looking at it and that is that starting the season with a manager that isn’t having to put his own spin in things is an advantage as they already know how to play his way. I think he has hit on something in going for 3 at the back. It’s a bit more entertaining and could be our default setting at home or against weaker oppo away. The 4231 could be utilised against better teams away from home.
If you look at it that way we could see some more adventure at home which will in turn please the faithful.
Stick with GR.
We need more midfielders than just the Hud if we are going to attack better teams.
Just read that about vydra being valued at 8mill. Ridiculous. He's worth double that in today's market.

The odds today have shortened considerably.
Betfair and Paddypower have him at 1/5 to go and The Mirror are reporting that he is poised to take the job.
The complete lack of a statement from manager and club speaks volumes. I think he will go, purely because he has one hell of a job on his hands at Derby, but will have cash to burn at Stoke.
I think all football managers take on a contract in the knowledge that they are unlikely to see it through to the end. It therefore makes good sense to move to the club that pays the most. Better to be out of work with a large pay off. It never did Steve McClaren any harm.

Unfortunately, I think you are 100% correct Spart.
McClaren must have skin like a rhinocerous?
Puts us in a bit of a pickle.
Mel has said the books need balancing and that means a top manager won’t be interested.
So who knows who we’ll get.
Perhaps Wassall is the way ahead as he will blood some of the Academy lads which is what Mel wants anyway.
Never a dull moment at Derby, (unless you were at the Burton game).
Well I wanted Wassall last time around.........
I can’t say I was expecting this one Scouse good job you changed your moniker recently.
I had high hopes for GR, (but then again I had high hopes for Clough and dare I say it Nigel Pearson).
I suppose it will be easier to say GR's football was crap if he does go.
Rams and Stoke 'in talks' according to DET ...

And the merry go round continues...Id be amazed if this happened. Where are we going??? Frightening to think of the managers out of a job at the minute. Got to start all over again. Looking at players we know aint good enough...give him time...blah blah blah. Not even 18 months at Derby.
Harps, even if the talks break-down (which I doubt), he's a dead duck at Derby as far as I'm concerned.
What a farce where a relegated team has so much more clout that a "top six" Championship club and even worse it's STOKE FFS!
*Sorry Fin, I meant to reply to you honest!
Stoke fans are used to seeing boring football (Pulis, Hughes, Lambert) so they may as well complete the set and give Rowett the job.
