Didn't the Everton fans just 'vote him out' because of the style of the football ?

Latest:

Stoke are close to finalising a deal with Derby County to bring in manager Gary Rowett, according to Sky sources

The newly-relegated Potters have indicated they will pay his £1.8m compensation clause and discussions with his representatives are thought to be at an advanced stage.

Rams owner Mel Morris was relcutant to let the 43-year-old leave but it is understood his position has softened after acknowledging it will be difficult to stand in Rowett's way in the face of Stoke's financial clout.

Rowett could therefore be announced as Stoke's successor to Paul Lambert by the middle of this week.

Sky Sports News reported earlier on Monday Stoke had approached their Midlands rivals for permission to speak to Rowett. whose side were beaten by Fulham in the Championship play-off semi-finals.

They had made him top of a list of candidates that also includes former Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy and ex-Leicester boss Nigel Pearson, but not David Moyes nor Sam Allardyce, as was widely reported.

"Stoke's financial clout"

Stoke FFS, how sad is that as a Derby fan?

posted on 21/5/18

Not sad at all. Stoke are a decent club and as a consequence of being in the Premiership have a budget which at the moment far outstrips ours.

I wonder what criteria they based their shortlist on ?

Must have total of four syllables in their names?

Rejected Sam because they thought his first name is actually "Bigsam"

If the folk producing the management shortlist are the same recruiters for the football side, we'll finish above Stoke quite easily next season.

Well this has rather caught me on the hop. I pride myself on generally being first with breaking news!

If Mel's serious about the impending case against Sam Rush then I don't think Allardyce being appointed would speak to our ethical ethos too well...

Stoke wanted a change of direction so didn't reappoint Tony Pulis when his contract ran out. They then produce a short list of Mick McCarthy, Nigel Pearson and Gary Rowett!

If football owners are still by and large the "captains of industry" (like they were in the 60s & 70s), it's no wonder this country can't manufacture anything.

Rowett has asked to speak to Stoke so it seems that's it. Not sure how a manager comes back after asking to speak to another club.

If I ever stop being sad about Stoke poaching the manager of Derby County then I might as well give up. Don't care how much financial clout they currently have

Mel must be happy with this.
Scenario-Stoke approach Derby for permission to speak with Rowett with regard to the vacancy at the Bet365 Stadium. Mel would assume it’s the managers position and not parking attendant and gave them permission.
If he had said no then Stoke are not allowed to make any further overtures otherwise they could be accused of tapping up.
Furthermore because there had been no indication of tapping up Mel must have told Rowett of Stoke’s interest and asked him if he wanted to speak to them.

All above board.

Could be Mel wanted to sack him but Stoke have come in and made it easy. Can’t think of a reason why he hasn’t kicked off otherwise.
