This country is massively over populated, there are way too many people per square metre living here, we were always going to be hard hit. That is the fault of previous governments, not the current one.

London is the perfect hotbed for the virus is well. So many different communities with their own set of rules and laws. I don’t live too far away from green lanes in north London, and it’s honestly like nothing has happened. People think as long as their safe within their own people or communities then nothing else matters. Also almost impossible to observe any social distancing, even for those who actually care to attempt it.

Remember how we all looked on in horror at Italy two months ago.

The government had so many warnings. Keeping pubs, shops and schools open so long when we all knew it was spreading. Giving all the idiots one last night at the pub

Now they’re blatantly lying about testing figures and people just lap it up. I’m not convinced even this will damage the tories.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the only thing that stands a chance of damaging the Tories will be the economic consequences of this situation and Brexit.

The trouble is, they have successful ran an anti-media campaign with this; so now somehow people think the news is untrustworthy but will lap up political spin from those in charge. Where a politician can lie or fiddle figures, but it will be the media that are criticised for challenging, asking questions or criticising it. Much like with the idiot over the pond.

It's like living in the prelude to a dystopian novel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whatever you think of Johnson he is nothing like Trump. Trump just shouts 'fake news' at a question he doesn't like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe not like Trump in his public speaking, but the tactics of trying to make the media out to be the enemy of everyone whilst the political party in power are your friend is very much the same. Which was the point I made.

My mate just told me about a group of 20 lads breaking into a power league for a football tournament in Mile End. I cannot believe there are still people who aren’t taking this seriously at all. Even when people’s lives depend on it, some really can’t seem to use common sense and stay away.

They’ve suspended filming.

Hopefully forever

Wow that's surprising! One if the largest populations in the EU has one on the highest death tolls.
Who would have thought?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hasn’t Germany got the largest population
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Glad someone pointed this out. Kind of destroys the point being made about population.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not entirely. You have to also look at the physical size of the country, I think Germany is over twice the size of the UK.

So selfish.

We’re all bored and want to see our families and mates, but we can’t
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing more selfish than the people who've latched on to the "asymptomatic carrier" theory as a justification for
allowing certain sections of the population to carry on as usual.

If Johnson or his ministers received the scrutiny their non-answers deserved rather than the soft soap the actually get, do you really believe they wouldn't cry 'fake news' ?

.....

What a load of bollox.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really isn't. Hancock bleating about questions after the panorama programme which he said was unfair and journalistically unobjective.

Population density is not so far different tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok yeah it’s not double bit it’s around 50% more and 15m more people so call that around 25% more people. It’s still a notable difference and in my opinion is a major factor in these numbers

Our response to the outbreak was sluggish compared to some of our neighbour, and given the head start we had. I don’t think excuses can be made for that.

We also need to explore the socio-economic and cultural issues in more detail to truly understand why we’ve been so badly impacted, and how we can improve the general health/well-being of the nation.

Underlying health conditions seem to be driving the death toll, and it’s well documented that we’re one of the unhealthiest nations in Europe (obesity, heart disease and smoking/booze-related illnesses all serious issues). Why have ethnic communities been hit so badly; population density/ghettoisation in London and Midlands (two worst affected areas) - is it a cultural or social issue? How to we address it?

The answer to why we’ve been affected as badly as we have isn’t as black and white as saying we went into lockdown too late, because vast areas of the country have been barely touched by COVID.
