Do stats take these sort of things into account?
There is a racism problem as well as a police brutality problem. Also there's a social imbalance problem.
But some people are conflating all these problems into just a racism problem. And that's the problem.
Do you see the problem some might have with this problem?
———
If there’s potential to address both of those problems why is it such a problem?
I agree that a lot can be conflated, though I disagree with a lot of the instances when they supposedly are, but it brings the racial and social imbalance into the equation. Trying to dissect these issues, to play down one, really doesn’t help the other.
Not really. Racism is racism

Let’s puts some statistics (for the US)out there for you to read.
2019
Police fatally shot 1004 people
235 of those were black
So about a quarter and that’s been the case since 2015
2018
53% of known homicide offenders were African American and about 60% of robberies. The population totals around 13% of the nation
2019
Nine unarmed blacks were fatally shot by the police, 19 white
In 2018 there were 7,407 black homicide victims. Assuming a comparable number of victims last year, those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings represent 0.1% of all African-Americans killed in 2019. By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s some figures for you
1 in 1000 black young people will statistically be shot by police in their lives compared to 0.4 white young people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Black people are also 8 x more likely to commit murder.
Who would have thought commiting murder and violenet crime at a much higher rate, may lead to more deadly poice encounters.
Must be racist!
You realise that black police officer kill black people at the same rate as white police officers.
Are black police officers racist as well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think black people are 8x more likely to commit murder than white people?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not then debate at hand is it? The debate we are having is whether there is any validity that unarmed black people in the US are more likely to die at the hands of police than white.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it contexualises the issue. If you can make a case that there is widespread institutional racism in america which keeps black people in poverty where they are more likely to commit crimes, surely you can use that to say whether or not a specific institution like the police have a problem with racism
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Different debate. I just want to know if there is any data that backs the argument that unarmed black people are killed by the police at a disproportionate rate to unarmed white people. I think it is quite in important detail considering the protests at the moment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah - in 2019 an unarmed black person was 1.3x more likely to be killed by police than an unarmed white person

But the above reductio ad absurdum is pretty obvious and a poor argument.
We’re not saying that at all, we’re saying that the social, economic and cultural factors that encourage a life of crime is what needs to be addressed

Are black police officers racist as well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think black people are 8x more likely to commit murder than white people?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of reasons.
Single parent rate for black children is around 65 percent, compared to 25 percent for white children for example.
Children with only 1 parent are 4 x more likely to commit a violent crime.
Black children grow up being told by the media that they will never amount to anything due to institutional racism, which doesn't exist. This breeds anger and resentment.
Black culture promote violence and drugs as opposed to education.
People such as Denzel Wahington who state the above will be vilified. But the reason black children are failing in schools, and murdering each other at record rates, isn't because of white police officers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bloody hell, ignorance personified.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're a troll who hasn't made a single good point. ill be ignoring you from now on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’ve just posted a load of trash. Try and get a clue you moron.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s right Robb, you’re not really contributing to the discussion here with anything other than saying you don’t agree & insulting people.
It’s completely logical that if one group of people are proportionately committing more crimes than others then they’re much more likely to suffer for it. Which is why we need to focus on why they’re in positions where they ‘have to’ commit crimes and look to change that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re looking at this from such an ass backwards away. Trying to direct the blame away from the police here and it’s very obvious. I know what you’re doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking for the causal root and suggesting that we fix that? 😂😂😂

120 cases had to be dropped due to this guy planting drugs. I read elsewhere that the person who caught him quit as the department or the prosecutor was upset she did this.

I’m off to bed now because we have a bunch of people who think the solution to police brutality is to make sure the black folk don’t put themselves in harms way. Scary really. Good luck with that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sleep well
But the above reductio ad absurdum is pretty obvious and a poor argument.
We’re not saying that at all, we’re saying that the social, economic and cultural factors that encourage a life of crime is what needs to be addressed

You’re having a nightmare mate, better go to bed as you say.

And I'm not taking about racism in general there. Just this idea that a disproportionate number of unarmed black people are being killed by police.

Are you slow?
9 unarmed black people were killed by police officers last year.
And you're stating because their is a 0.3 difference between this figure and white deaths, it supports institutional racism?
