If we think Wolves are short on numbers of players spare a thought for Portuguese top flight club Belenenses. They were at home to Benfica today but 17 of their players had failed covid tests. So they were only able to name a starting team of 9 including two keepers.
Benfica duly took advantage and were 7-0 ahead at the break. Belenenses had two players pick up injuries in the first half so only 7 started for them in the second half. Early in that half another player went off injured leaving them with 6. At which point the game was abandoned
that is some sportmanship from Benfica.
Burnley, our opponents on Wednesday, had a weekend off when their scheduled home game against Spurs today was called off because of snow
I read that article about Belensenses earlier on the BBC website. I would have thought that due to the covid crisis, common sense should have prevailed and the match called off before a ball was kicked.

Who should we play on Wednesday instead of Neves , who is suspended?
Lots of options......,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not much choice other than Dendoncker is there. Be a big game for him to prove he still has something to offer the club. Unless Bruno surprises us and picks Luke Cundle who is probably a more similar type of player to Neves than Donk is.
Other big team selection will be whether we stick with Trincao and Hwang who were both ineffective at Norwich, or will Bruno give Adama a chance
I would like to see us try Cundle, not a huge pressure game for him to start
Yeah, I wouldn't have an issue with giving Cundle a go either. For me this is nothing more than a transitional season with zero expectations so would like to see us give the young blood a chance over the old guard where we can.
I think Burnley is a game made for Dendoncker. Starting Moutinho and Cundle in midfield seems like it would play into Burnley's hands in terms of physicality.
maybe rest Moutinho and play Donk?
some big games coming up quickly a rest may be an idea, he is not a spring chicken
But really not many options

I think Wednesday is a really important game in terms of maintaining our healthy league position. With games against Liverpool. Man City and Chelsea on the horizon we could really do with 3 points against Burnley
Rafa Mir just put Seville ahead away at Real Madrid
We go out of our way to keep hold of a mediocre Traore who apparently wants out but barely bat an eyelid at trying to keep Mir.
Short in midfield, that is a surprise.
I do wish some of the posters on here read my posts properly and not accuse me of saying things that I haven't and actually digest what I have said.
Ok boston, what are you actually saying?
Read it again, I just stated IMO that we needed three players, not panic buy or spend a fortune.
We have done well this season and so has Bruno.
Nothing about owners, selling the club or other accusations.
I have supported this club from the early 50's and I want them to do well. I also remember the good and bad times and am entitled to give my opinion as I see it, as is everyone else.
I rarely go to games for various reason, distance age etc. but I closely follow the team on TV, radio, internet and on print.
So all in all those are my thoughts and that is what I am saying.
I don't think there is anything in that. that anyone would disagree with.
Nobody thinks the squad doesn't need bolstering. The only question left is how to do it. I'm sure it would be very easy to fill some gaps. But I think we are looking with a more long term view.
If we bring players in they have to be more than a stop gap, and be the sort of quality to challenge in the first team. easier said than done.
I have no problem with Wolves spending money, big money if need be. But it has to add value, and spending big makes the decision even more critical. get it wrong and it can do more harm than good.
Kieffer Moore, short term option we tried to sign this summer.
Who knows Cinci? he isn't here so it makes no difference, does it?
I dunno Amiga, it feels to me like you are trying to put forward a case that we display some kind of genius in the transfer market when we really really don't.
We are no different to anyone else for the most part, we have spunked money on poor moves, managed to get in some good younger prospects/up and comers at times and at others apparently let moves collapse over minor issues. Talk is we stuttered on Sanches thinking he wouldn't be fit for months but then he was fit to play within weeks.
I think all you have just highlighted is how difficult it is to bring players in. I don't think there is a football club in the world that won't make mistakes. But it is important to keep them down to a minimum, and learn from those mistakes.
There are many ways to mitigate risk, buy younger players, Loan first, promote from the youth. But it all a balancing act. Those that do it the best will reap the rewards. Those that do it poorly can pay a heavy price.
I am watching an Everton speaking about his team at this very moment, He is talking relegation (a bit over the top for me) But they have spent a $h1t load, and have very little to show for it.
I think we have a decent policy of picking up younger talent on the cusp of becoming stars, or threatening to become stars but needing that push for the most part.
Ait-Nouri signing was a coup, Trincao another that has the potential, Neto was highly touted before a set back at Lazio(?), Hoever another that made sense although it hasn't worked out as yet.
Ironically we don't seem to do a good job with our own youngsters we have had from a younger age, MGW and Otasowie a couple that spring to mind. Talk of Sanderson not being happy and of course Goncalves wanting out though maybe that was just a simple case of homesickness or maybe we just didn't do enough. Kilman finally getting his chance has been great though.
Enough has already been said about Fabio Silva, a signing a club of our standing at the current time has no business making. Maybe he will turn into a star but we cannot be throwing 35 million at maybes with zero track record.
You win some, you lose some. That is football. The trick is to win more than you lose, and Wolves so far have come out pretty well, at least as far as transfers are concerned.

Right? Umm, Jonny, Neto, Boly, Mosquera, Podence. OUT
What point don't you get?

Bit of a stretch calling Mosquera a first teamer after having played a whopping 10 mins of football
