Seems to be a far too familiar story against sides lower in the league, I'm hoping home advantage will help us on Wednesday but these games against teams that know if they fight and battle like their lives depended on it, often prove too tough for us.

comment by Cinciwolf---VOTE CINCI!! Cinci for Wolves chai... (U11551)

i think Podence is comfortably better than either and surprised he didn't start today.

A decent first half and surprised we lacked momentum in the second. Came away with a point, which I think we were somewhat fortunate to get.

Reading a lot of comments today about Ait-Nouri. Personally, I thought he could have done better. He was in a lot of space on many occasions, but failed to take anyone on down the left. His crosses have to be better too. Something I pointed out last week.

Cannot agree that Coady had a good game. Pukki pulled him all over the place and but for better finishing could have 2 or 3 goals.

Sa was my Wolves' MoM, just ahead of Neves and Kilman.

Starting Trincao ahead of Traore would indicate to me that we will be moving the latter on come January, if there are any takers.

Still not convinced about Hwang, who got off to a flyer when he first came to us, but has faded slightly over the last few games. I would certainly wait until the summer before making a decision to sigh him permanently.

Thank goodness it won’t be your decision then.

We are, as we all know (or should) three players short.
A defender, a midfielder and another forward.
This was obvious last season and apart from Hwang and Mosquera, who has played 20 minutes, the
problem was not addressed.
The midfield was the biggest problem and absolutely nothing was done in that area. Those who say Dendonker is the back up are deluded if they think he can step in as he is not a midfielder and I struggle to see where he fits in.
I think so far this season we have done very well with the resources we have had, but it could all unravel very quickly.
The person I feel sorry for is Bruno, with the hand he has been dealt he's done a pretty good job.
I just hope we do address the problems in January.

Problems? Jesus get some perspective.

The Centre Back issue going into January is a “problem”, and anyone that denies it is delusional.

Bruno has gone on record saying as much.

posted on 27/11/21

Problem? about what? We might not finish in the top ten of the prem? It's like people have forgotten the last 30 years.

posted on 27/11/21

Feck sake Amiga! It was better when you were missing in action. Are you saying because we’ve been crap for 30 years we need to accept not having any effective cover at Centre Back when we lose 2 of the 4 we have in January?

We need to back Bruno, and give him the tools to do the job, that means additions in January for certain.

What job? What are you expecting? We are pretty much an established Premier league team. That is already one hell of a job.

Yes, by all means try for Europe, a cup run, even a trophy. But it doesn't all have to happen this season. I just think fans get carried away. We are still building, that will take time, and certainly more than a January transfer window.

I have spent most of my time supporting Wolves, just dreaming of being in this position.

That’s fine. Have it your way bud, the squad doesn’t need strengthening, ๐Ÿ‘

I didn't say that did I? I just wish fans would get some perspective, and appreciate the good things that are happening at this club.

If we can get some good deals done in January that's great. But I'm not going to be dismissing everything we have achieved if we don't.

Re boston's comment on Dendoncker, yes he's different to Neves and Moutinho but I disagree that he's not a midfield option, he was very good playing in either a two or more rarely in a three, Nuno used him initially as a box to box player and got some valuable goals in that role. I do think he's got bigger over the last year or so though and with it less mobile, hence why Lage has used him more in a defensive role.

I do think that our meteoric rise up the table in our first year back in the prem was in one way a bad thing. It raised fans expectations way above where they should have been for a newly promoted club. When we achieved 7th place again the following season many fans were convinced that we were ready to start challenging the 'big 6'. That simply is not going to happen or at least not in the next few seasons. Building a squad of that sort of quality will take a long time and an awful lot of money. We have to be patient and some of us may not live long enough to see it but I hope that one day Fosun's dream is realised and Wolves become a force in European football. I keep reminding myself that just 7 years ago we were promoted from league 1 and spent the next 3 seasons playing turgid football in the championship.
I love the football that we are playing now, I'm very happy with where we are in the league. I think that if we can get 2 or 3 players in to strengthen the squad and when we have Neto, Jonny and Boly all back, we can maybe progress further but if it doesn't happen this season I for one will not be fretting about it.

I've watched wolves in all four divisions, the large majority in the championship and with all due respect to some of the great players of the seventies sides who I only really saw towards the end of their careers, this team of the last four years is best I've seen. To see us competing well in this league makes me really proud to be a fan of the club. However the fact that we couldn't fill the bench today underlines that squad is thin. Thankfully we do have a few attacking options still but as mentioned earlier we've got next to no midfield or back three back up.

Not only does this make us vulnerable to injuries, it means there's no competition for places. Neither issue thrills me, but yeah one defeat in 8 and the team is playing well.

I could do quite a list of things that can be better but I do think when Wolves are 6th in the Premier League all criticisms are hollow really. I’d be surprised if we finished as high as 6th because the squad is so shallow. And Neves, who has been the star man of recent weeks will be missed when suspended, and other players will miss games too.

At times we have looked every inch a top 6 team and outplayed Everton and West Ham to prove that point. But in away games at Leeds, Palace and Norwich it’s not been great to watch and we haven’t looked that good. But it’s still early days for Bruno and he’s done enough to earn support and there’s every reason to believe the best is still to come under his management

I’ve just read through this thread again as I thought maybe I’d missed something last night.

What seemed to make Amiga prickle was Boston’s comment about needing to strengthen in defence and midfield, and the clubs failure to do much in this regard in recent windows?

What I can’t see is where anybody is losing perspective or dismissing the good things that have happened at the club? I’m filtered by quite a considerable number of posters though, so if I’ve missed these comments then could someone repost them for me. ๐Ÿ˜‚

It is the imperative I have a problem with Black Country. I want success as much as the next fan. I am just more measured in how we get there.

I don't want signings in January, I want the signings that will make a difference. So unlike many fans, if the right player isn't available (at the right price) and we don't sign anyone, I will not have a go at the owners, call for them to step down, say they have lost interest. As so far they have achieved more than any other owner in the last 40 years.

By all means make a wish list, try to figure out how we might strengthen. But what may be simple to want, is much harder to actually do.

posted on 28/11/21

That’s literally all that Boston was doing. Making a wish list in areas that he thought we could strengthen.

Nobody is saying that the owners should step down are they? Nobody is saying they’ve lost interest.

I think that your obvious love of the club makes you ultra defensive to what you perceive as the slightest bit of criticism. I too have supported the club for over 50 years, and this is without a doubt as good a team as we’ve ever had in that time. But, do we need another centre back in January? Yes. ๐Ÿ‘

posted on 28/11/21

No we don't simply need. We need the right ones. That is the point I am making.

And yes sadly fans have called for Fosun to sell, saying they have lost interest, saying they need to spend more. I find it all very predictable sadly.

One of the guys at work, after our first 3 defeats was saying we were getting relegated. I am not ultra defensive, I am not bullish. I simply recognise, taking the next step is not as simple as wanting to.

I didn’t realise you worked with Uncle Herbert? That must be challenging ๐Ÿ˜‚

I literally have no idea what that is supposed to mean. But I'm happy for you

Thanks for pointing out to me that we need the “right” centre back. Here was me saying that we needed to buy the wrong one.

Patronising much?
